Hi, wondering if there is a way of calculating how much I would have paid in gas/leccy over the last two years had I been with a different supplier? I've just changed from a provider who was supposed to guarantee the lowest prices to a new firm who are significantly cheaper. I can use the new firms current prices to calculate a rough saving, but I'd really like to be able to go back to my old company with a more or less exact figure, taking into account price changes etc and show them exactly what I would have paid had I used a different supplier and see how good their 'guarantee' is!
Thanks
Thanks

Are you talking about a residential tariff here (as opposed to something you may have negotiated under a business contract?)
I don't know of any supplier who would guarantee to be the cheapest no matter waht your consumption. There is at least one company that makes some marketing propoganda that may make you believe this, but if you read all the terms it really doesn't mean much.
(e.g. based on assumed average usage, based on assumed expensive /standard tariff, etc)
I think I remember seeing one promise saying assumed you were paying by cheque on receipt of bill without any prompt payment discount with the competitor, yet they themselves would insist you paid monthly by DD.
If there was any one supplier that promised to be the cheapest in all situations, we'd all be with them!"Now to trolling as a concept. .... Personally, I've always found it a little sad that people choose to spend such a large proportion of their lives in this way but they do, and we have to deal with it." - MSE Forum Manager 6th July 20100 -
I think that you are wasting your time if you are expecting to actually get anything back from your old supplier. Their worthless guarantee is summarised here
It would be interesting to know how much extra you have paid for your energy. Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0 -
Thanks for the replies. I didn't want to name names as I gather from reading this forum that the company I just left seems to evoke a lot of heated debate! I figured their guarantee would be little more than marketing fluff but to be honest, they made it so difficult to leave that I just want to make a nuisance of myself with them, whether it comes to anything or not.
I've cut my energy costs by £28 per month moving to EDF & I saved £21 per month on broadband & phone, so overpaid by a significant figure. As soon as I completed the transfer to EDF, they started sending me bills with FINAL DEMAND in huge red type on the front of the envelopeI doubt I'll get any money back from them, but if I can annoy them by suggesting trading standards etc or ASA, then I'll be happy (ier)!

Actually I wan't thinking of that particular supplier the link included in espresso's post refers to.
Just goes to show, there's more than one supplier who has claimed to be the cheapest (but in all cases almost certainly won't apply to you after you read the terms)"Now to trolling as a concept. ....
