Hi all thought i would pass this on.
If you switch both electricity & gas to British Gas you can collect 10,000 free nectar points (value £50).

I switched over a week ago but havn't been changed over yet when i got the email about this. I phoned & said if i didn't get them i would cancel & they agreed to let me have them.

as a new member i can't post link but if you need details pm me :money:

  • It's only a good deal if they are not over charging you by more than £50 on your gas and electric.

Basically as I see it they whack £50 on your bill and give you the nectar points.

I do not like these points schemes myself.

I did a uswitch check & British Gas was cheapest for me on pay & go. There is no lock in or service charge.
So Nectar is a bonus for me.

Not saying I particularly agree with how KimYeovil said it, but it is a bit suspicious how you sign up and make your first post one like this, I put it to you that you are a BG/Sainsburys salesman!

(The "PM me for more info" was the giveaway, sorry!)
    Missing Tesco R&R since Feb '07 :A & now a "Tesco veteran" apparently! ;)

The terms and conditons I have read suggest that only 40% is paid up front. The other 60% is paid quarterly. So £20 then £7.50 each quarter. I did not bother to scry any further to determine whether or not the 1800 points (nine whole pounds! Whoop de !!!!ing doo) per year are on top of or included in this.

I apologise if you are not an idiot in a call centre who said 'Oooh, ooh, Mr line manager, why don't I plug the points on social networking sites, ooh oooh!!" I do not apoligise if you are a bona fide customer who is a fan of spending thousands of pounds on loyalty cards to earn pennies in points.

Not sure if I'm reading the conditions correctly, but does the fact that you have to sign up to Standard gas /electricity mean that you are on an expensive tariff and not one of the specially discounted ones eg websaver

plus you usually have to actively claim your Nectar points, rather than it being automatic. I lost lots of mine last year when EDF had the deal with Nectar as I just (wrongly) assumed they'd be added to my nectar account. Only found out yesterday that Nectar has now joined forces with BG, so no more nectar points for those of us on EDF. No-one bothered to tell me by email or anything.
  • The 10000 nectar points is a bonus if you switch to Sainsburys Energy (which is now supplied by BG).

In spite of the cost of living, it’s still popular

No i am not in a call centre "Sherlock". Just a normal customer trying to help out "WHAT A MISTAKE!! won't bother again.

I was originally led to U Switch by "THIS SITE" after putting in my details postcode etc, the results told me i would be £29 better off by switching from EDF to BG plus i would be able to continue receiving Nectar Points.

Therefore total savings in first year over £79

So what you are all saying is this is not the case. So why is MoneySavingExpert advertising & recommending U Switch?

Kim Yeovil you may not need to save paultry amounts like this but we are not all in your fortunate position, that is why we come to sites like this. Oh yes why are you here?

Myself i would like to thank Martyn Lewis for helping us less fortunate.

    Thank you!

    Have found terms now:

    * You need to be a Nectar account holder and register with British Gas to collect points. Offer applies to new customers who sign up to take standard gas and electricity from British Gas. 40% of your points will be applied to your Nectar account 15 days after your supply start date(s). The remaining Nectar points for each fuel will be split equally and applied to your Nectar account quarterly for the first year. You must remain on supply for the fuel in question at the time the points are issued to receive them. Offer may be amended or withdrawn at any time without notice and cannot be used in conjunction with any other British Gas energy offer. Excludes prepayment customers. Only one offer per household. Offer ends 31st March 2011. Terms and conditions apply. See britishgas.co.uk/nectarterms for details.

The difference for an average customer between BG's standard tariff and BG's best online deal is £187.

BG aren't the cheapest online tariff so you might save some more with another supplier.

It doesn't make sense to go for this Nectar Points Offer.

I hate Nectar points anyway but that's another issue.
