How early can I switch?
I moved into my new place about 7 weeks ago. I'm with BG atm, but I want to use a comparison site to see if I could save money with another supplier. However, I haven't had a bill yet. I've set up online account management, and BG have my opening meter readings. I'm due to put in my next lot of meter readings next week. Do…

Is now the time for a long-term contract?
I am just about to re-sign for gas and electricity and am being offered 1 and 3-year fixed price contracts. The appeal of the 3-year is obviously the known quantity. But I am suspicious that if the suppliers are offering to fix, they believe that prices will fall. Does anyone have an informed view on this please? Viz

British Gas
Well have to post as am pleased. We are with British Gas as for now its the cheapest provider for us for both gas and electric - we are on prepayment meters, not I hasten to add because of debt, but because we didn't want to get into debt. Hubby used to be a taxi driver and earned daily and no back up if he was off ill,…

British Gas Cancellation Fee?
I have just had my "final gas bill - actual" from those wonderful people at British Gas. I am changing supplier and this is, as it states, the last bill to them. They have very kindly added a "Cancellation Fee" to the bill. An extra £35.00. What!? Do I have to pay this? I wasn't aware that I had entered into a termed…

advice - electric only rented propery - money saving?
Hi, I have been looking at all the tips etc for homes that have no gas supply, but I am managing to get myself in a muddle. My partner and myself have just moved in together and are renting a ground floor 1970's flat. There is no gas, everything is powered by electricity. It has single glazed windows, fairly thick walls, 2…

Queen pleads poverty: Royal aides asked Ministers for help with Palace heating bill
Will they cut her off or put her on a Pre-Pay Meter? The Queen asked ministers for money to heat Buckingham Palace from a fund reserved for low-income families, it has been revealed. Scottish Power Online Standard (No Standing Charge) tariff
Hello All, Is anyone on this tariff? Is it any good? Apologies for such a basic question but the price comparisons sites are total dutch to me. I ask as I live in a small 1 bed studio flat (electricity only). Scottish Power recently e-mailed to revise my direct debit to £90 per month, which I think is quite alot given my…

ScottishPower - Advance payment discount
I'm with Scottish Power and they have written to me suggesting that I can pay for a year or more of energy in advance and get a 5% discount on the tariff. Assuming I have the cash, this seems like a reasonable deal to me. About the best I can get is 2.8% on a cash deposit with a financial institution and this seems like 5%…

Temptation to move
Having been with staywarm for years (2 of us 2 bedroom) paying £90+ per month, we have now moved to another part of the country and have used British Gas and Southern Electric for the last 6 months. NPower say they can reduce our bill by £178 per year. Plus DD bonus's. Am tempted.

quick question about switching suppliers - payment to supplier you are leaving?
I've just signed up online to switch to Eon from scottish power but I've got a quick question. As of our reading last week we are £40 in debt (currently overpaying by about £50 a month over usage to make up for a deficit over the winter). We pay a fixed monthly amount by direct debit. I noticed that they say that if you…

29 June 2010 Gas = 4942 Electric = 58029 22 september 2010 Gas = 4969 Electric = 58609 Everything is electric except hot water. We are on pre-payment meters and have spent £50ish on standing charges for the gas. All the money we put on the gas meter goes to the standing charge it's just stupid!
