Will they cut her off or put her on a Pre-Pay Meter?

The Queen asked ministers for money to heat Buckingham Palace from a fund reserved for low-income families, it has been revealed.

Royal aides pleaded for the cash as they claimed gas and electricity bills had risen by more than 50 per cent in a year - totalling more than £1million.

They complained that the £15million government grant to cover the Queen's palaces was inadequate and her energy bills had become 'untenable'.

The money would have come from £60million of energy-saving grants reserved for cash-strapped families, housing associations and hospitals.

Whilst the thought of Elizabeth & Philip wrapped in blankets sitting around a 1 bar electric fire whilst using corgi's as Foot Warmers give's me a smile, I'm afraid it's just the Daily Mail doing it's usual.

Buckingham Palace is a virtual ' Building of State' - It's where visiting dignitaries from all around the world are entertained - It's where the worthy, and sometimes the not so worthy, are honoured by the State - It hosts summer garden parties for all sorts of groups from the Red Cross all the way down to the Caravan Club.
If it did not exist, we would have to invent it.

My local bakers has a Daily Mail headline pinned to the wall " Putin adds 15p to the price of a loaf "
I hold no brief for Russia or a leader who's publicity photo's always show him 'Rambo style', but the truth is that there has been a serious crop failure in Russia and Putin has banned exports so that he can feed the population - Do you really believe everything in the DM?
  • Now theres a program l would like to see....Martin Lewis sitting down with the Queen showing her how she can save money, switich suppliers, send aides out for the 1p finds etc.

In these days of benefit and welfare cuts for all should not the old hen be means tested like everyone else.

If the same criteria for assets and income was applied to her as us common mortals then surely this would mean that she got no state help of any kind with the running of her many homes .
