hi
wasnt sure where to put this to get the best response so have posted this in moving, renting buying thread too
moving out of home for the first time to a rented flat and was just wondering should i be arranging for the gas, leccy etc to be changed to my name now or wait until the day i move in ?
i'm not sure which supplier is used at the moment, but the flat is empty right now so will it just be 'switched on' when i tell the supplier my details and set up a payment system ?
thanks

You need to ideally contact the supplier on the day you officially become responsible for the property. That will be the day the TA starts (which is usually the day you move in)
The supplies should be on. If not, the LL/agent should be able to switch them on for you when they take your meter readings and get you to agree to then in the statement of condition/inventory report. Best to make sure they do that. They should only be isolated at isolation switch/valve which the LL/agent should also ideally point out for your own safety in an emergency.
When you contact the supplier, give them the readings and ask them to create a new account for you. Then you can discuss the best tariff/payment method you would like from them."Now to trolling as a concept. .... Personally, I've always found it a little sad that people choose to spend such a large proportion of their lives in this way but they do, and we have to deal with it." - MSE Forum Manager 6th July 20100 -
