Inexplicable spike in electricity use at 4am?!?
Hello brainy people, Can anyone work this out: I have just started monitoring my electricity usage via an EoN monitor. Having downloaded a week's worth of data it shows a spike at 4am (or sometimes in the 2am slot - the bars are every two hours) every day. The spike is around 5-7kwh, whereas every other period through the…

Huge gas bill
We've just received a letter saying that after our annual usage review, EDF want to put our monthly direct debit up from £30 per month to £200 per month - surely this is extortionate?! The bill says we have used £444 worth of gas in a quarter - there's only 2 of us living in a 2 bed terraced house, so this seems really…

Water heater-using peak when switched to off peak??
Hi all, I have economy 7, with a Gledhill Pulsacoil 2000 water heater. The water heater has 2 switches, 'Off peak' for overnight and 'Peak' for a top up during the day. Yesterday evening I switched it on 'off peak' and I noticed it heating up and making a noise. I went and checked the meter and it was turning around quite…

Waiving the cooling off period?
I'm just transferring my gas and electricity (for the umpteenth time - I have no loyalty to any company except the cheapest) and it has occurred to me that this statutory 14 day cooling off period is a royal pain in the bum to an energy supplier tart such as me. Is there any way that one can waive this period if the…

My last day with EDF was 23 August. After that date I cancelled my direct debits which would have come out on 1 September. Now my final bill has charged the period 25 May to 23 August at the higher non-direct debit rate. Can this be correct?

Electric / Gas in block of flats
I have recently bought a new build property in a block of flats. When I moved in I was told that the supplier of both gas and electric was Eon. Do I have to stay with Eon or can I pick any supplier I want. I have no idea how gas and electric suppliers work and wondered if I had to stick with Eon if they supply the electric…

Who owns the gas supply pipes?
Scottish Hydro came knocking at my door last night. He claimed they own the gas pipes supplying my home and that I should have had a reduction in the spring - I did actually and told him that. He then wanted to complete a questionnaire; which I refused because I was busy but he then gave the impression that he will return.…

Want to Disconnect Gas
Hi there, Basically I want to close my gas account. I only really use it for my cooker and I have some electric heaters which I want to use anyway. E-on Would appreciate any feedback or help on this, please, as I'm totally lost with it. I currently pay £76 direct debit for electricity and gas with E-on. Scottish Power - my next step to complain?
Hi. I wrote on here a little while ago about a complaint I made to Scottish Power. Cutting long stories short someone came to read the meter and I phoned afterwards as I had another estimated bill... they'd LOST the meter reading so I gave them my own. I owe £300. They did tell me, and I quote, 'your usage is quite normal'…
