Where Can I get one of those Gadget things
.... that tells you how much electricity is being used and by what??? Just been looking at the kWh used over the last 12 months and its 5266 ..... when I tried to put this into moneysupermarket.com to see if I could get a better deal on G&E it wouldn't accept that reading as it was 'too high' for electricity! I'm now…

Is this legal?
I have lived in a H.A. two bedroomed shared ownership flat since it was built in 2006/7. It is heated by four Dimplex panel heaters, an electric fire in the lounge and a wall fan thing in the bathroom. It is, and always has been, on an Economy 7 tariff, which I assume was agreed between the builders and Powergen (the…

Southern Electric Bill
My wife and I returned home last week (Wednesday) to discover a letter from Southern Electric to advise that our Direct Debit is going to increase from £31 a month to £165 for the same period. This was apparently due to the fact that our usage was higher than estimated. My wife spoke to them and they have advised that the…

units on higher rate
I am with Brit Gas on a fixed price contract for 1 year for Gas and Elect. With every quarterly bill the Kw hrs charged at the higher tariff are different. I cannot work out how this is done? it does not seem to be a percentage of total Kw hrs used. I had a similar thing when I was with Southern Electric. Calls to enquire…

Voltage Stabliser
I am looking to install a voltage stabliser (I think that is what they are called). This was after seeing the BBC TV show DIY SOS. It was the hour long special from South Wales where a box was fitted next to the meter to stablise the voltage into the house at 220v. That saving was said to be about 30% per annum. Did anyone…

Electric meter "stuck"
I'm with Southern Electric and an estimated electricity bill arrived last week. As as always, I rang them with the meter readings. I have Economy 7 so there are the day & night figures.) The guy said the economy 7 readings have apparently been the same for the 3rd time so my meter must be "stuck" or I'd read it wrongly.…

Hi My 20 year old daughter is on IS and child tax credits and CB. She has 2 children and about a year ago her partner left her. He was a lazy so and so who didn't want to work but just spent all day smoking pot. There were constant rows. We all breathed a sigh of relief when he actually went. However he left her in quite a…

Way Leave
My father is trying to get a Electric Link box moved from the side of his house in order to start work on an extension. He has contacted United Utilities and been told that there is no Way Leave in place for the link box, and that he'll have to pay £1500 to have it moved. This seems unfair given that there has been no…

Wind turbine power output ratings
I was inspired by the Free Solar Panels article to look into wind turbine as we are planning a move to Scotland in the next few years. The turbines are all rated by wattage, but it is unclear what this means. Is it the amount of electricity produced per hour, per minute, per second, per day, per year (based on an average…
