Would I save?
If we turned the gas off completely (old very inefficient boiler) and used the immersion heater to heat the water for a couple of hours a day? The only reason I ask is that our monthy payment has gone up from £90 (duel fuel) to £150 and thats BEFORE the price increases. We're with Scottish power at the moment!

Scottish Power switching
If you're thinking of switching to SP and have a meter previously used for Economy 7 they can't cope. My present supplier, EDF, simply take both readings and to calculate total usage. My attempt to switch to their Fixed Tariff was thwarted! They also continued with the Gas transfer without asking my opinion at moving away…

Reduced tariff for medical conditions?
Hi all, Hopefully someone can point me in the right direction on this one. My partner has a medical condition which means she feels the cold much more than the rest of us. The condition is thyroid related and is incurable. She already receives free prescriptions as ahe will be on medication for the rest of her life.…

Does this sound too much?
My mum lives in a 3 bedroom terreced cottage, with very steep stairs so she never goes upstairs during the day(bathroom downstairs) so theres no heating on upstairs either in daytime or through winter. She has a gas fire in the living room on low more or less all the time in autumn/winter and a halogen heater in the…

Should I switch to E-ON
Energyhelpline advising me to switch from Souther Electric to E.ON - EnergyOnline Extra Saver Standing Charge 8 saving £450 (27%) based on using my current monthly payments in the calculator. Seems like a no brainer but am I missing something, is E.ON about to go up? Any advice please?

Govt Slammed Over Fuel 'Disgrace'
With £1.635bn in dividends last year - a 19% increase on the year before, why is the government not taxing energy companies more when pensioners cannot afford their bills? I thought energy companies were using these massive profits for reinvestment in infrastructure and new technologies, but if they’ve got over £1.5bn…

Another Gas bill - how come?
Wondering if someone can enlighten me ! I received (and paid) a gas bill at the end of July. I've just received another one  - I'm currently on quarterly billing so by my maths, my next bill is due at the end of October. What are they playing at???? !!!! Anyone else had this? (before I go ringing them to…

New metre
I recently went out to the communal metre cupboard (there are 4 flats on the block) to take a metre reading. I noticed that the 3 other metres have all been changed to newer versions, whilst mine remains an old style metre. Should i call my supplier and why was i left out?

Give Up Gas, Go Electric?
It seems the way to go if gas continues to be linked to the oil price, because electricity isn't. Mind you if you did make the switch over with all your heating and cooking and all the costs that that entails and then some blighter cuts the connection between gas and oil prices, be sure you have an electric chair on stanby…

Help, I've just switched!
After doing a comparison on the web I have changed to British Gas Click Energy 5. I understand that they are due to hike their prices up within the next couple of weeks by 20-25% but my question is does this include the possible price hike in January, so altogether I could be paying between 40-50% more than I am now?? If…

EDF Price Saver 2008 to Price Saver 2009
My EDF Price Saver 2008 scheme runs from April 2007 to end Sep 2008 so it's due to expire shortly. Before I applied for the follow-on EDF Price Protection 2009 scheme now on offer which lasts until Oct 2009, I tried MSE's link to Energyhelpline to see the increase in EDF's prices. Wow! for my dual fuel it calculated a 55%…

How to compare if you've just moved house?
Dear all Please help! My sister has been abroad for a long time and has just returned to the UK, bought a flat and moved in. She therefore has no utility bills to enter into comparison websites to see which gas & electricity would be cheapest for her. Any ideas? Thanks everyone x

Surely they can't do this?
Just received a bill from our gas and electric provider asking for an additional £200 on top of our normal direct debit instalments. When we phoned they said it's because they haven't done a meter reading in over 2 years??? Can they go back that far? Seems a bit unfair that they have gone back two years?

Is this average?
Hello I must admit I don't have a clue about reading meters  I want to start keeping tabs on my KW's and as I had recently changed supplier, I thought it best to get first reading from them. Anyway, the meter man came out yesterday and I have looked online today at my usage. Am I using a similar amount to…

BG Click Energy
Just signed my daughter up to Click Energy 5 to try to save a bit of money and also for convenience with reading meter as she's out all day. Can you tell me if they send an email when the meter needs to be read or can you put the readings in monthly (I do with SP). Thanks

Are You Having a Laugh Sunshine?
I had to chuckle this morning when the post arrived. In it was a promotion from a company telling me how much I could lower my energy bills by installing their Solar Energy System! Have they checked a weather forecast recently? I can't remember the last time I saw any serious 'solar' ... all we seem to have had this…

electricity meters with different day/night tariffs
Anyone who has an electricity meter that automatically switches between day and night rates (such as Economy7) should ensure that their meter timer is in sync with the actual times that night rates apply. Otherwise like myself you may find the meter has switched on appliances such as storage heaters or the immerson heater…

Capping prior to house move
I love this website, and I've always found answers and tips on the forum before and found everyone to be really helpful with some really good advice, but this time I've had to regsiter and become part of the community as I can't find the answer to my question anywhere! Basically, I am about to move into a new house in next…

Gas OR Electric, what's it gunna be baby?
It seems to me that competition between these two is non existant. Surely if I dumped gas and the gas insurance cover contract that I am on I would save £225 per year straight away. Also how much more expensive is gas than electric? quite a lot I suspect, but who out there is letting us know?
