Should I switch to E-ON

Energyhelpline advising me to switch from Souther Electric to E.ON - EnergyOnline Extra Saver Standing Charge 8 saving £450 (27%) based on using my current monthly payments in the calculator. Seems like a no brainer but am I missing something, is E.ON about to go up?

Any advice please?
Regards

  • Hi

I believe that E.ON did not increase this tariff in the last wave of price increases, therefore it may increase at any time.

Nevertheless, I have switched to it from E.ON Energyonline Extra Saver v5 as it will save me a few bob until they do.

I must say that E.ON's customer service is very good, and as a customer if you phone them at any time they will tell you which is the best tariff for you and swap you immediately.

    Hope this helps.

  • That tariff has NOT gone up yet.
The "Extra Saver Online V...." tariffs have generally been one of the lowest cost tariffs together with BG Click 5..., particularly if you use "online" billing and direct debit payment to get extra discounts.
At the moment, I think that neither has gone up, but they may well still be attractive when they do. Most people are taking the lower cost while they can and review when it goes up.
Lots of posts in the forum about this and MSE has an article about it as well.
And be very careful as not all comparison sites are showing correct prices, again many posts in the forum.
  • Have a read of this earlier thread about the same topic.

  • I wouldn't touch E-on with a barge pole, the customer service I recieved has been the worst I can ever remember..which has ended up with a formal complaint against them.

I quite like that http://www.energyhelpline.com/ website - it tells you who haven't put their prices up yet.

For me British Gas, two of E.on's tarrifs, and Ebico all came out cheapest for me - funnily enough, none of these have put their prices up yet!

Thanks Basmic. BG would save me £200, but I'll wait to see if & when they put up their Click Energy Prices.

    That's exactly what I'm doing.

Every time I take a meter reading now, I punch it into Scottish Power's website. Using some of my own magical calculations, I then work out how many kwh units I use over 365 days. I just punch these into uSwitch/wherever, and see how comes out best.

I'm hoping that either my current tarrif (Scottish Power Online Energy Saver 4) is working out the cheapest for me, or I can find one cheaper.
