British Gas Sent The Heavies Round...
Hi I have just had a burly chap knocking on my door on behalf of British Gas asking for money for 'outstanding debts'. This was totally out of order as my 'outstanding debts' with them have been included in my bankrutcy so I don't actually 'owe' them anything and they know all of this. Putting that aside though they only…

How to work out kwh
Can somebody tell me how to transfer the units on the gas meter to kwh as required by the energy switch websites? I expect this information is here on the website somewhere, but it is eluding me. I don't trust the annual cost to give me an accurate comparison after so many recent changes. Thanks

Boiler discount schemes
Any of them still going? Noticed on the Energy Saving Trust grant search that my local authority scheme has disappeared. I think the Magic Boiler Scheme is still going. But any other Midlands or national ones?

I have switched providers for my gas and elec twice now to try and get the best deal and BOTH times the new provider has put their tariffs up within a month. Is this a dodgy scheme do you think?

British Gas and their boiler 'insurance'
Hi all Have seen an ad for the above, and was wondering if it's any good? Think it was £10 a month, and that covers boiler breakdown, call outs etc... Are there any other moneysaving options to this? Any other competitors doing similar?

Do insulated radiator panels save money? - I'm testing them now
Hi I recently bought a pack of Novitherm /Heatkeeper radiator panels via a special offer in the COOP bank magazine called Change. The company website blurb says you can save between 10-20% of your heating bill. It also had an impressive set of independent tests results and the Energy Saving Trust like 'em too apparently…

My Gas went up 19.9% and they backdated it 2 extra months!
Hi My latest gas bill showed a 19.9% price rise, the company concerned when questioned said " you must be wrong, the price rise was 9.9% ", I got her to calculate it herself and she had to admit i was right. She consulted someone else and the reply was, " oh, 9.9% was the national average ", which means some luck person…

Why do utility companies love direct debits?
I have switched Gas and Electricty companies about 3 times in the last 6 years to get a better deal. I find that utlity companies prefer direct debit payments in order to offer you a better deal. However, I have always found them very ineffective as they keep changing the payment amounts and writing to you to say that your…

   for three months - I live in a 3 bedroomed house, on my own. I'm out most of the day and a few nights too, so my heating is generally on only for 2 hours in the morning and about 5 hours at night. My heating is the only thing I have on gas as all the rest is electric. I am with British Gas, on their…

Moving Gas Meter outside
Was looking at a kitchen but in order to install it I would need to get the gas meter moved outside. I am pretty confident it could just go the other side of the wall from where it is now, so nothing major. I am with Equigas, so I rang Southern Electric who got me to ring someone else (Fulcrum i think they were called) who…

energy comparisons-warning
My recent experience should be a warning for those using energy comparison sites. A) Can anyone actually make sense of their annual consumption for these sites? B) I used SEVEN sites to compare costs using the same annual costs for gas and electricity. Six of the seven came out with the same leading contenders in the same…

Revenge is sweet-Thanks MSE
I am on a pre-payment meter for my elecricity only as I have no gas. After hearing bad stories about NPower and looking at the U Switch site I decided to switch from NPower to Ebico, which I did through Ebico's site. After I had been switched over, I got a bill from NPower saying that I owed them £198! How, I thought, can…
