Gas & Elec costs with Scottish Power
Options
Hello - I'm sorry if this is going over old ground - I'm at work & haven't got time to wade through the whole forum at the moment - I wondered if I could get some quick advice / info?
We have a 3 bedroom house and gas & elec are both with scottish power (have been for a few years). We have been paying £54 a month up until now. On 2nd Jan got a bill saying we have to pay £96 a month. (We have about £250 to pay off for what we have already used - so presumably £54 wasn't enough - but it has nearly doubled). We sent in the readings & the figures went down by about £2. I can't understand why we have to pay so much.
I did Uswitch (found it quite confusing) and it seemed that Scot Power was still the cheapest
How do other peoples payments compare to ours? We pay by monthly direct debit & use gas for cooking and heating if that helps.
Thanks a lot

I have had similar increases. I'm currently with edf for my gas and am paying £85 per month so that they can claw back money as they originally had us paying about £24/month. My electricity charges have also gone up, but not by as much.
I'm in the process of switching to Scottish power so hopefully they are cheap and it's just a case of you having to pay back what is owed and then your direct debit will go down again.
I take my meter readings each month and note the values, that way I can check my bills based on the kwh I have used.0 -
we are with scottish power. i got a bill for 255 just before christmas - rang to sort it out was told direct debits were now 132!! My previous bill was £39. i suggested that they weren't very good at estimating usage the girl told me that i use more G & E in winter. Never!
Anyway, i asked them for copies of my last five bills so that i could track my usage and budget accordingly. Was told that copies cost £5 each!! I told her to shove them up her bum.
So make sure you keep your bills, at least for a while so you can keep an eye on oyur usage. Scot Power obviously won't help you do that!!0 -
If you register with their online service you can look and check anything to do with your acc and update your readings regularly they even e-mail to remind you to do it....... we are paying £55 per month for both gas and electric in a 2 bed semi..... which I think is reasonable they wanted to reduce my monthly payment to £51 in November but I e-mailed and told them to just leave it as it is and they promptly replied complying with my request...
EDIT: I forgot that of course they do not send you an actual bill if you manage your acc online but you can print it out from the website if you so wish.....#6 of the SKI-ers Club :j
