problems after switching
Options
i switched from scottish gas to scottish power in july (thats when scottish power actually took over my gas supply, and i have letters to confirm this) but scottish gas have continued to send me bills and are now threatening to cut off my gas supply. can they do this?
i have been on the phone to both companies multiple times, who blame each other, although once scottish gas did admit there was a note of the change on their end, every other time (at least ten times) i have been told there was no note of anythin and i have to get scottish power to inform them officially. i also have been on the phone to scottish power several times who assure me they have informed scottish gas on more than one occasion that they now supply my gas.
does anybody know who i should write to at scottish gas? i want to send a letter and a copy of my contract agreement with scottish power and tell them to stop contacting me, but preferably to a head office address?
what else can i do???

Firstly, call Xoserve datacentre on 08706081524 between 9am-5pm. They will confirm who the registered provider to your house is.
If they confirm it is Scottish Power:
1) Don't hang up, let the system transfer you to an adviser and ask them to confirm the date the changeover went through.
2) Call the Scottish Gas general enquiries dept (billing). If the account number on your latest bill starts with 8500 ring 08459 555 800, if it starts with 100 ring 0845 609 1122 (or use say no to 0870).
3) Advised them you have changed to Scottish Power and you are still being billed, and that you have confirmed the changeover has gone through with Transco (old name for Xoserve). You want the bills/reminders put on hold until the account is closed. Do not let them transfer you to homemovers, or debt, or energy, or any other department they can think of on the spur of the moment to get out of dealing with it. In true MSE way ask for compensation for your calls. They will probably only offer you £2, but it's better than nothing.
4) They will not be able to close the account immediately. However they will arrange for someone from the frontline support team (FLS) to call you back within seven days. They can also arrange to put a hold on the bills for 28 days. If you still have it also give them the reading you gave to Scottish Power when you changed to them. Keep a record of who you spoke to, their extension number and the time of the call.
5) Allow the FLS dept 14 days to call you back, if not then contact energywatch. Also contact energywatch if you receive a threatening letter after you have ask them to stop sending reminders (allowing for the post - check the date on the letter. It is dated the day you called or before then ignore it).
If Xoserve/Transco confirm British Gas is still the supplier
Presumably there has been a problem or delay with the changeover and they are still entitled to charge you. In this instance if you call BG, explain the situation and ask for 28 days to reclaim your money from SP. They should do this for you; if the agent refuses it's because they don't want to not because they can't. Then contact Scottish Power and ask for any payments back (if you have made any) and get them to reapply for the transfer.

Turns out i owe scottish gas the cash. but they're letting me pay it up "in light of the situation" although i'm sure they'd let me do that anyway but hey. i've done everything u said and things are well on their way to being sorted. cheers!0
