Pay scale progression on maternity leave
I am currently on maternity leave and due to progress on the pay scale this year. However while I have been on leave the pay policy has changed. It says that you have to have worked at least 26 weeks in the last year to get the next pay point. I have been told to come in to work ASAP to complete my appraisal and they will…

Advice needed: Salary offered, then a lower amount confirmed in writing...
Long story short-ish (this has been going on since June), here is the sequence of events: December - Offered a job internally on a trial basis for six months at X salary. Confirmed in writing. June - Met with line manager, their line manager and another colleague and was offered Y salary which I accepted. August - Finally…

Advise on settling into new job
Started new job in July after 7 years at my old job - left only for job security and more hours. Struggling with 3 people in the office. They do seem to be going out their way to make my life hard. Lady 1 - in early 50's - started off very cold but polite but now progressed to ignoring completely and will not help me when…

Why do interviewers say they'll 'let you know either way' and then don't??
This is a bit of a frustrated rant, but I am seriously struggling to understand this. It's happened to me three times in the last few months. Interviewers will make a big deal out of saying 'You'll hear from us either way' and then just don't bother. Why bother saying that if you don't intend to follow through? Just say…

HELP_Under 1 year service, dismissed unfairly. How can I raise to tribunal?
I was fired by the employer in London after 11 months of service, due to 'poor performance'. I think the dismissal was unfair. However, I cannot claim 'unfair dismissal' as I was employed under 2 years. I would like to know 1. if there is any other ground that I could claim 2. I am a non-EU national. May I claim on racial…

Maternity Confusion
I'm really hoping someone may have some experience in this as I'm confused. I work in a school where most people (who arent teachers) are on a 39 week contract - I am on a 41 week contract because I am needed in school during results period so whereas most people would 'book holidays' I 'book working days'. I am going to…

Recruiting Internally - Fair or Unfair?
Hi everyone :) As you may have seen on one of my previous threads, I had an interview a couple of weeks ago and was unsuccessful. I mentioned how odd the interview was (really short, quite casual considering the role, interviewer asked random question and didn't seem interested in my employment history etc...) Since then I…

My leaving is not convenient
While I knew it wouldn't be easy... I'm at a loss of how to handle this. Blame it that I've done 8 months nearly, and been the model employee lol! up till now!! Tried to hand in my notice Monday just gone and the relatively new manager we have is trying to sweep it under the carpet and ignore it - because it reflects badly…

Offered a job
I interviewed today for a receptionist job for a manufacturing company. Less than four hours after the interview I got a missed call, and when I checked my email I got a job offer asking me to reply to confirm if I want to accept the job. The pay is around £16k but it's a dead end job. Have another interview coming up on…

Fair or Unfair?
Hi, I have been in my current position for 1 year now. Due to it being a new department, I have been there the longest in the team. I was promised a rise in wages after 3month probation. However, after I passed I was told there is no money available and so I stayed on the same wage. In the meantime I have requested to take…

Forced onto shift work
Hi I work for a company that builds military equipment for the mod, and we are in talks with the hr department over our new pay deal. The percentage we are going to get is 8% over two years which is great. But this is at a cost of losing holidays and a new shift pattern. We have been told that if we don't vote this is we…

Boots Xmas job interview
Anyone else had one of these this year? Any idea of what to expect? I have not worked for 4 years due to a number of factors, one of which was ill health. But I have finally got a diagnosis and am on medication. The job is under 20 hours as I know I couldn't do full time. Do I have to tell them any of this? Tia

Jury Duty question
I have recently finished jury duty and i'm in the process of filling in my expenses form to claim my loss of earnings. I told my employer I would not be available for 2 weeks as I had to be available for jury duty and because of the nature of my role they have covered it with someone else for those 2 weeks. Given this on…
