Hi, I have been in my current position for 1 year now. Due to it being a new department, I have been there the longest in the team. I was promised a rise in wages after 3month probation. However, after I passed I was told there is no money available and so I stayed on the same wage. In the meantime I have requested to take on more responsibility to show willingness to progress and hopefully earn a pay rise. I was on my own for a while, but now we have new starters to join me. I therefore asked again for a rise, to be told the same thing. No money available. Today though, I found out that they are on more money than me by £2k. I have trained and look after these and feel undervalued now.
Would I be within my rights to stop doing the additional work I do seeing as I feel it is not appreciated or valued - which is key to the department but not within my job role - and concentrate on my job. I am in sales so time away from selling is less commission. I am due a bonus in Xmas so want to stay for that and leave in New Year.
Many thanks in advance.

Have a look at what your contract states. I more or less was in the same position as you in my last job and it's so upsetting. Some contracts state in the job role 'any other related duties' or something similar, so make sure that the extra work you do couldn't be classed under that field. It may be worth talking to a union.
If not then tell them you will do the work your contract outlines and nothing more.0 -
I can understand feeling somewhat betrayed. I would start looking for a new job if I was you, and do not consider any counter offer from your current job if it comes to that stage.0

I agree that this is probably the best course of action. It sucks, but stick to your guns.0 -
I've been in sales for a number of years, and this always happens to me! In my last company, they promoted a telemarketer up to the inside sales role that I had been doing for the past year, but were paying him £2.5k more than me! I complained and did get an increase. A year or so later, I found out that two graduates were taken on, and were paid £5k more than me!
Look for a new company that values you and wants to reward your hard work and enthusiasm.0
