Maternity Confusion

I'm really hoping someone may have some experience in this as I'm confused. I work in a school where most people (who arent teachers) are on a 39 week contract - I am on a 41 week contract because I am needed in school during results period so whereas most people would 'book holidays' I 'book working days'. I am going to be on Maternity leave next Summer so obviously wont be working those 10 days. My HR manager is not very good and doesn't really know what she is doing she has tried to make me work many extra days in the past and I dont trust her expertise - does anyone have any idea how this might work in terms of me working the extra days before my maternity leave? Has anyone been in a similar situation? It seems a bit ridiculous because I am not otherwise needed in the holidays I work with students and they will not be in.

Thanks

Check your contract - it should be in there.

Have you given HR your MATB1 ?

I have no experience with Schools, however I would have thought it good practice for them to give you written confirmation of what leave and pay etc. you will be entitled to.

In the meantime, as previously suggested, have a read of your contract of employment / employer handbook.

You get as much holiday on maternity leave as you would if you were working. You can take some before your m/l is due to start and it's generally recommended to take some at the end, with your employer's agreement, so that you're not left with a massive amount to take towards the end of the leave year.

But I don't think you'd need to deduct those 10 days you'd normally work from your leave entitlement. You are not working, you are on m/l.

Do you ever book time off during term-time, or is it assumed that you take it all in holidays?
