about 2 years. Then got another job which I've been at for a long time, but was let go a few months ago.
Only job in the pipeline is a job sweeping up the yard of a factory and being bossed around by people half my age for minimum wage.
I really just want to forget work now for the rest of my life and see if I can get benefit money for depression or something similar.
  • Technically 5 weeks but I got the job after 3 and decided to delay starting by 2 weeks to go on a holiday etc.

I've been lucky that I've only once been kicked out the door without any notice and so have been able to line something up during my notice period on the few times that I've been pushed rather than jumped. Similarly when I have been pushed then its happened at a time of heavy recruitment rather than a quiet spell and I've missed the couple of periods of mass exodus

12 months, I left voluntarily & wasn't actively looking for 3 months to start with (I left in September) and as it turned out I didn't get another job until the christmas temp period the next year.
Retired member - fed up with the general tone of the place.
  • Never.

Thankfully I've never been made redundant and I always waited until I had another job before handing in my notice.

Just over 3 years for me although I had planned to take a 6 month break after redundancy anyway. Unfortunately, just as I was starting looking again my mother died. I have a disabled brother who lived with her and I then spent the most of the next year getting him sorted out. A gap of 18 months doesn't look good on a CV even with an explanation and I believe that gap made it significantly harder for me to get back into work.
Fortunately I had the finances to get through with out too many problems.

Just under a month. Finished one job 4th October 2002 and didn't start the next until 1st November 2002. Both were temp agency jobs.

Only once for 3 months in 2008 - but I had been made redundant and had some redundancy money so decided not to look for work for a while and took some time out. I spent some time with family abroad and then came back and found work within a week of my return.
