Forced onto shift work

Hi

I work for a company that builds military equipment for the mod, and we are in talks with the hr department over our new pay deal. The percentage we are going to get is 8% over two years which is great. But this is at a cost of losing holidays and a new shift pattern.

We have been told that if we don't vote this is we won't get our next contract from the mod, which I feel us point people in the position to vote it in.

What I'm asking is can they make you go on a shift work if you never voted this in, and it doesn't suit your work life balance. I have asked this to our hr department and they said they will get volunteers first, and then make people go onto this shift if they have to, is this not against human rights or something?

It's people like you bleating inappropriately about Human Rights that has allowed the Tories to be in a position to say that they intend to repeal the Human Rights Act, to the detriment of those who really need it. If you go to your boss or HR with that argument expect to be laughed out of the room.

Get over yourself - the OP would have better said 'my rights', but the meaning was clear.

You only rights would be employment rights as negotiated by the company with your Union, if that exists.

In the company I work for we have to be given 90 days notice of any change in shift pattern. But the bottom line is do it or find another job.

There are no human or other rights. A Union can fight for your rights not to do it, but I suspect that could result in job losses.
NO to pasty tax We won!!!! Just shows that people power works! Don't be apathetic to your cause!
