Warning on Lloyds Added Value accounts
If you have the Lloyds Classic Plus account (4% AER), beware of upgrading to any of their added value accounts. I did, and then cancelled after a few months, and they have slyly put me back on to the Classic account (0.1% AER) - only noticed from my online statement. It's not worth the hassle - I wish I'd never upgraded.

New Current Account? First Direct or Smile?
Hi all I want to move away from my bank who are completely inept! I want a bank that has good customer service and good internet banking facilities. I'm considering First Direct or Smile. Both seem to have good customer service (if you exclude the monthly fees from FD, I won't be subject to the fee because of my income).…

Getting off an expected bank fee
From Nationwide, for a direct debit that was taken and then returned due to the amount being claimed being 'wrong' and overwhelming my normal overdraft (that part is my 'fault'.) Tariffs state this will be £30. Haven't been charged until my statement is produced in two weeks - and then 21 days or so before collected. Am a…

Hi, My girlfriend became bankrupt in Feb this year, partly due to excessive bank charges that compounded her financial problems. I am all for reclaiming the bank charges, but she is worried that Abbey will close her account if she does - and it looks likely they would. Can anyone recommend any banks out there that would…

Best Joint account?
Hi all, My OH and I are taking the plunge and buying a place together and so we've decided to get a joint account. We'll both be keeping our own current accounts so this account will just be used for paying in each share of the mortgage and bills, plus a bit extra which we would like to earn a good rate of interest on as…

raldaman
I see that Coventry B.S. are paying 5.5% per annum on their 60+ saver account which, prima facie, seems very good....but you can only invest £2000 per month. I'm no good at working these things out so can someone tell me what the difference would be if, say, £24000 were invested at outset at 5.45% p.a ( which is what…

Martin's advice to the masses
Can I just commend Martin for his excellent advice, in todays sun, about changing current accounts, if/when they re-introduce charges. I am (just) old enough to remember when these were last in place - and indeed when some credit card companies had annual fees. These days the banking world is very different to the early…
