Account for the bankrupt ?

Hi,
My girlfriend became bankrupt in Feb this year, partly due to excessive bank charges that compounded her financial problems.
I am all for reclaiming the bank charges, but she is worried that Abbey will close her account if she does - and it looks likely they would.
Can anyone recommend any banks out there that would open a new account for someone who is bankrupt ? Otherwise, I'm guessing it will be easier to wait until she is discharged in Feb, open a new account then, and then pursue the charges?
Many thanks

Depends what sort of account she wants but Nationwide offer a cash card account to anyone just apply online and also try the cooperative bank who offer an electron card.0

Natwest offer an account called their Step account offers all normal facilities like direct debit/standing orders plus a Solo card.
Some people have recommended Citibank & Yorkshire bank if she is bankrupt, you could ring up a few and ask, I know with the basic accounts it isn't supposed to matter what your credit history is like but could be worth a ring around to avoid wasting time at a later stage.

Hello, I'm an ex bankrupt and have had a terrible time getting a bank account with solo or switch or even electron abilities.
Nationwide were the bank the official receiver said I could put my money into. I took money out of the ATM one day and then the next thing I knew I was receiving letters telling me that as I was overdrawn without permission I was going to be charged. Turns out that the ATM allowed me to take money out making me 83pence overdrawn, this resulted in approximately over nearly two pounds in bank charges. Why? Because when they wrote to tell me I was 83 pence overdrawn they charged me for the priviledge of doing it. Then because of the money not being in my bank account it bounced several of my direct debits, which they then cancelled after they'd written individually about each one charging me for them bouncing and charging for the letter that told me they were bouncing them!
Then they offered me a 200 overdraft despite the fact at that point I was still overdrawn to pay for my bank charges!!
I tried HSBC Natwest Barclays Abbey they all declined me even a basic bank account with no cashcards.
So I wouldn't recommend Nationwide in my experience they weren't helpful0
