I have transfered £50,000 via a written Nationwide cheque to a Natwest account on thursday at about 11am. When will I be able to withdraw this from the Natwest account?

Generally 4 working days from when you paid it in, so Wednesday. But it depends how much you want to withdraw, and if in Cash, as they may ask where payment has come from etc.

natwest have 24 hr banking so ring them and ask.

How long does it take for a cheque to clear?

The provider's website is generally the best source of information. ;)

Please also remember that cleared for funds is not the same as cleared against fraud. If it is a cheque from a stranger I would phone your bank specifically to ask them if it is totally clear before drawing any money.

    where it says:

When it emerged that banks now refuse to guarantee cheques - meaning that funds paid in and credited to an account could be recalled months later if problems arise - Financial Mail launched its campaign to preserve the cheque as a safe and reliable form of payment.

  • If a customer pays in a cheque we tell them that it is normally available for withdrawal on the 5th working day, but the customer has to bear in mind that the cheque could still come back unpaid after this time. Working to this time scale the cheque should be available on wednesday.
