Do TalkTalk sales tell porkies?
I was contacted today by talktalk sales. I told them that my current line speed peaks at about 1.1 Mbits due to distance from exchange. TalkTalk stated that if I swopped then I would get 8Mbits, which as far as I am aware is unobtainable on my line. Are these TalkTalk porkies?

Beware e-Christmas cards. There’s a virus going round.
I received what looked like a genuine hallmark greeting card. All looked right, barring the main link which clicked to a virus. If you get e-cards, first check they’re from someone you know – don’t open any that aren’t. Then hover your mouse over the link to check it goes to a legitimate site, before clicking. And always…

broadband access - any ideas?
Hi all, So the short story is that my work are putting a bit of pressure on me to get broadband at home so that I am available to be on call in the evenings and at weekends. I share a house with my friend with 6 months left on the lease, after which we will not be renewing - and I don't know what I'm doing next year so it…

Virgin Media - Avoid if you rent...
I signed up for Virgin (Broadband and telephone) 6 months ago after myself and my flatmates were not happy with the service we were getting from our provider (Talk talk) at the time. It has now come to the end of our tenancy agreement and as much as we would have liked to stay in our current place we could not agree a…

Broadband Packages with VOIP 2nd lines/free calls to USA?
I currently am on Orange Broadband but the contract is up for renewal. With my current package I can plug in a phone into the router and I get a second line at home. This is very useful as it offers free calls to the USA which I ring a lot for work. Does anyone know of any other UK broadband providers who offer a similar…

The Great 'Up To' Con
When Telco’s first dipped their toes into broadband waters, they adopted the notorious phrase ‘UP TO’. It was not entirely a Bad Thing then. Now, it is a Bad Thing. It was not a bad thing because telco’s could sell their wares traditionally (and legitimately,) like market traders have done for centuries. They could shout…

Virgin Media believe their is room to increase Broadband Prices.
"Consumers will maintain their spending on high-speed internet access in a recession, Virgin Media's chief executive has predicted on the eve of this week's launch of a "super-fast" 50mbps broadband product. "Broadband is not a discretionary spend," said Neil Berkett, adding that the US-listed UK cable company even saw…

Betamax/Finarea Client is a Memory Hog
Beware if you are using any of the Betamax Finarea client for VOIP calls (eg NONOH, SMSDiscount. POIVT etc). These programs grab up to 50% of CPU resources! If you have two clients installed you can expect your computer to almost grind to a halt. Any suggestions what these clients are doing that consume such much CPU time?
