Broadband Packages with VOIP 2nd lines/free calls to USA?

I currently am on Orange Broadband but the contract is up for renewal.

With my current package I can plug in a phone into the router and I get a second line at home. This is very useful as it offers free calls to the USA which I ring a lot for work.

Does anyone know of any other UK broadband providers who offer a similar service?

Many thanks

Have a look at sipgate.co.uk, get a free incoming UK number, and try voipdiscount for outgoing calls, US landline and US mobile free, for outgoing on voip you can use the computer using their software, but if you get yourself an ATA, say PAP 2 you can then have both your lines running at the same time and use a 2 line standard telephone.

If you just have a USB broadband modem then you will need to change this to a router that has more than 1 ethernet port.

This is just one way, other people will give you their own experiences.

ATA PAP2 is a little interface box that connects to your router, (there are others) it has 2 telephone type sockets on it. you connect either a 2 line telephone to it or 2 single phones. (you can get telephones with this box included in the actual phone)

You set up the unit by using your web browser, entering in the details of your user name etc from sipgate and or voipdiscount.

The unit then registers with them that the box is online.

If you registered with sipgate for a free number, anyone who dials that number will get your phone to ring, and you answer it as normal. For out going cals via voipdiscount, you choose the 2nd line (or second phone) and dial the number, note that some providers need the fully country code even for UK.

Your computer does not need to be on to use this, just the box and the modem/router.

Do some research on VOIP and have a look at sipgate (incoming calls) and voipdiscount websites (outgong calls).

if you are happy to use your computer, and have a microphone then try out the voipdiscount software, you do not need to pay anything upfront.

With sipgate, if you get your free number, you can then download software from their site, that is already configured for you for free.

I use both of these on my laptop, so when I am abroad, and at pre-arranged times, people can call me on my sipgate local number even if I am anywhere in the world with net access, I use voipdiscount, to call UK numbers free, again from anywhere.
