I have had massive problems with NTL Broadband.
They have oversold their service up to 10Mb but cannot deliver as my local area suffers from congestion at peak times.

If you want a word of advice DO NOT go with Tiscali. I am with them and have been for 4 years on a 2meg connection. My brother is with them on the Tiscali Max package (8meg plus calls) since about September last year. He has NEVER had anywhere near 8meg speeds - his best download limit has been 240kbps and the phone line keeps clicking and whirring and making all sorts of strange noises. Tiscali also throttle your speeds if you do P2P downloading (like torrents) or online gaming.
I was quite happy with them until about September last year when they e-mailed me saying that they were upgrading the exchange to take 8meg broadband. My speeds plummeted from that point on and sometimes I get the headspinning speeds of 10kbps (yep, that was 10KBPS). I've only ever downloaded 3 torrent files in my entire life and they've also throttled my speeds too.
On phoning their Indian based customer services, you get very polite but absolutely useless service. You check everything they say (three times over in my case), the fault is still there, so they ignore it cos they don't know what you're talking about because they don't understand you.
My brother has just migrated over to Sky (mainly cos he had Sky TV and it seemed like sense) and I'm going to move tomorrow, once I phone for my MAC. I've read a lot of good things on ThinkBroadband about NewNet, so I'm considering that.
I did consider AOL but I've heard a lot of people saying that the AOL installation causes problems on their computers, so I'm a bit wary of that.0 -
Tiscali Max (up to 8MB) free anytime calls (01,02 numbers) and free line rental for £19.99, spoke to a tiscali billing rep today. The offer is only in certain areas of the country, Tiscali will be carrying out tests and upgrading software in the exchanges in late March and the month of April. Launch date has been set in concrete as May 2007. Existing customers if you are in an area which this becomes enabled you will receive an email or letter making you aware. No information as of yet as to which areas of the UK this will be available to, however if you have received a previous email from them regarding this then it will be available in your area.0

Hi folk's you will only get 8mg's if you are sat on top of the exchange box, I get 4 1/2mg and my exchange box is 6 doors down the road then turn left and walk 20 door's down your there, so it is impossible to get 8mg unless your sat on the box. my mate's box is not as far away as mine and he can get 8mg on a good day,
hope this helps but up-to 8mg is what they are saying not 8mg,
cw
Pls be nice to all MSer's
There's no such thing as a stupid question, and even if you disagree courtesy helps.

Hi all
I'm with Tiscali for the time being just for broadband.
I'm looking at taking up this offer
http://www.tiscali.co.uk/products/broadband/bundle-8mb-at.html?code=ZZ-NL-11XY&broadband_exists=1&cli=01709580945&ms=5500&package=8mb
and wondered would like anyones thoughts/comments before I sign up.
It would give me up to 8Mb download speed depending on my line (5.5Mb according to BT) and my landline calls would be free at all times.
The only snag is that I have to sign up by Saturday to get it at this price.:wall: Flagellation, necrophilia and bestiality - Am I flogging a dead horse? :wall:
Any posts are my opinion and only that. Please read at your own risk.0 -
not a bad price. Im with tiscali on the same package and pay 19.99 a month. however, i only ever get dl speeds of 2.2 mb probably becasue of my exchange. you can leave the phone contract whenever you want but the broadband will run for 12 mnths.
whenever ive contacted cs i only ever got uk centres ( i contacted cos i moved banks and they didnt set up dd, subsiquently had large bill to pay, mini moan).
hope this helped0 -
I was on the £17.99 package with Max 8mb broadband (only receiving 2/3mb because of exchange like baron above) and getting free weekend calls and have just upgraded to have all calls free anytime for no extra (why don't they just give it to you instead of trying to get away with it! )
I've had no broadband problems with dropping lines since July last year and have only used the home phone at weekends.
The broadband support calls have always been answered by an Indian call centre. My recent Phone support calls last week were Uk call centre.
I'm trying to find a better deal at the moment for when we move house (next week :j ) for when our contract runs out but don't think i'll be able to find a better package for what i want.0 -
