  • I wondered does the Tiscali BB + phone package allow you to say dial 18185 etc., or are you stuck with Tiscali for every UK, foreign and mobile call?

I like the idea of reducing my BB + BT rental costs. Although I must say I am absolutely commited to my provider Eclipse's BB quality and utter reliability & would probably cry if I left them but its the money presently £14.99 BB + BT £11...

    Glad it worked!
  • Barry Mung;
you could try writing to them (old fashioned and quaint, I know)
Customer Services Dept., P O Box 7206, Kiln Farm, MK14 6XG. Include your account number and be very clear in the letter EXACTLY what it is you're asking (personal and ongoing experience...I have so far asked the same question 3 times with no joy and so have written to the CEO.)
Head office; 20 Broadwick Street, Soho, London, W1F 8HT.
    Good luck.
  • Hi there, I've just joined and have been having a look through the forums to find another broadband provider that has good recommendations.

I've been with Tiscali for about 4 years now and yes, they were fine until I hit a problem!

When I first signed up with them for a 1meg broadband connection, it took them 11 months to set up the direct debit, then I got hammered in one go for the payments (just as well I'd left it in the bank!).

I then upgraded to the 2meg connection.

Just before Christmas, I got an e-mail from them telling me that they were upgrading the exchange to take 8meg broadband.

Since then, my connection has been terrible. Sometimes I'm getting 10kbps (yes, that was kilobits per second) and other times, I get the heady speeds of 50kbps (yep, kilobits again). I have phone customer services umpteen times and never gotten anywhere - mainly cos I don't know what they're saying and they don't know what I'm saying!! I really wouldn't mind Indian call centres if they actually employed people that could speak English!

My brother (who lives about 500 yards from me) upgraded to the 8meg connection cos he does a lot of on line gaming and he also got the call package added on. His connection speeds are nearly as bad as mine! I think the best he's had was about 150kbps. The phone side of things isn't too bad apart from a constant clicking on the line.

Again, he contacted customer services and apparently there's no problem with his line or connection either.

I really wouldn't recommend them now - even though I had over three years with no problems.

Now I'm going away to post for some recommendations on broadband providers!! :D
  • Spoke to Tiscali again today re the Broadband package for £19.99 and it appears it won't be on general release until Feb now!!!

Well, yet another month comes and goes and no sign of this deal. And, suprise, suprise, no communication from Tiscali to explain the delay. Just silence

I think this could be the end for me. I have had no real problems with the service and the price has been fair. However, the traffic shaping has considerably dented the service to the point where I'm no longer satisfied. The £20 all-in-price, whilst not resolving the traffic shaping issues, would have been enough of a sweetner for me to except the limitations.

At the end of the day, you do get what you pay for.

Who are you thinking of changing to ??
There is lot of competition & all networks are overloaded.

The networks have not kept pace with numbers of new subscribers & their increasing usage of broadband for everything (video, audio, gaming etc.).

Don't believe anything any Telecomms sales person tells you regarding their broadband service as they're desperately trying to get new customers.

Research is still ongoing but I will be looking at ISP's that do not employ traffic shaping, where VPN connectivity will not be a problem and I'm prepared to pay a little extra than the bargin basement price I have been paying.
