Family member lives with us. Does this affect Universal credit.
Good Afternoon. Our 25 year old Grand -daughter lives with us and works full time. I do not know how much she earns. (Not my business). I may lose my job next week so will have to claim UC. My Husband works part time due to age and health restrictions. If I claim UC do I have to tell them how much my Grand-Daughter earns?…

Warm Home Discount winter 2026-27; new eligibility rules for Scotland.
I have just noticed that new legislation came into force on May 1st 2026 that expands the automatic eligibility for Warm Home Discount in Scotland, to bring it more into line with England/Wales. This means that more households in Scotland will now qualify automatically for a £150 Warm Home Discount next winter without…

Becoming an appointee
Hello Everyone, I have agreed to be an appointee for someone I know. They have informed DWP and a visiting officer is coming round to do the necessary ID checks in a couple of weeks. The DWP said they needed to fill in a form, do the ID checks and ask some questions. Any ideas what sort of questions they ask? I don’t like…

PIP Tribunal THIRD attempt... SUCCESS
I started a thread about this sometime ago but it got closed due to some rather inappropriate comments: So I thought I'd start a new thread in order simply to update. My wife had her THIRD Tribunal on Monday. What was supposed to be a two-hour hearing to give my wife sufficient breaks turned into just a 20-minute hearing.…

pip extension out of the blue
I know PIP often gets extended for a year often due to review workloads. (had that with last review) But just come back from holiday to a letter from them. Advising that Mrs PIP has been extended from March 27 to March 2031, with a possible review contact date of around March 2030 At the time I did question the 3 year…

ESA/UC transitional protection and other points of confusion
First some context about the lead up to the situation I could do with some help with. I have been on ESA Support Group since 2010 when I stopped working. I received the Special Disability Element (SDE) top up from 2018 when I began receiving both PIP components at the enhanced rate. My wife began receiving ESA Support…

Parent possibly moving in
I’m trying to work out what the best thing to do is, but I need to understand the financial implications. I am privately renting a 4 bed house for me and my 2 children. My ex partner and his daughter were living with us when we originally moved in, but it worked out cheaper for me to stay when he left, even though the 3 of…

Quick UC AP question
If an individual applies for UC on the 1st of the month, does it follow that each subsequent AP is the relevant calendar month. For example, if applying 1st Aug, the first AP will be 1st - 31st Aug, then 1st - 30th Sept, and so on? Thanks!

Redundancy and benefits
I need a little help please. Husband was made redundant, just as well as his health is deteriorating. He is losing his sight as well, he is going through sight assessments at the moment. I am applying for PIP for him. The plan was to claim for ESA and carers for myself. I’m looking to change career direction and starting…

In a panic please help. AET self employed carer transitional protection ending
I have had this message from UC saying we are no longer entitled to it but I’m sure it’s wrong. My partner is self employed and I am on contributions based ESA & PIP. As far as I know AET doesn’t apply because he is self employed, have I got this wrong? “You no longer meet the criteria for transitional protection as within…

Do I need to sign on?
ok that terminology may not be right, but bear with me. I’ve stopped working. I’m 56. I’m drawing my pension (as meagre as it is) but have enough to live on. I have full NI credits to get full state pension when I get to that age. Do I need to inform DWP or anyone about my life choice? I’m not intending on claiming any…

University - when does child benefit stop?
I am probably missing something really simple. Our 18 year old will hopefully be going to Uni in September, and our 16 year old to college. We had letters asking to confirm if either will be continuing in approved education, and if we don't respond the benefit will cease in September. We extended the 16 year old, but I am…
