    Fab news :j

I just received my PAP2 from Amazon today (£20 inc delivery) the firmware is 3.1.3LSc, which means it IS possible to unlock. Use the excellent guide here
Read the guide carefully (+ the summary in a seperate thread) and it is very straighforward.

have you got a link the pap2 on amazon mate as I cant seem to find it therer.

The files and instructions are all captured really well here

wheich is another thread on dslreports.

    Thanks for that, much appreciated.
  • So what providers are you thinking of using ?

I managed to connect up with SipGate quickly and was impressed with the quality. My plan was to try a few providers and check the technology before converting my landline over to VoIP.

BTW - if anyone else buys the PAP2, there are a couple of things to watch for to change defaults over to UK settings.

Could you please explain what these are? TIA
  • You need to set the regional options correctly for the UK. This posting here was a great help to me and solved a common problem of 'quiet' calls.

Also it is typical to have problems behind a NAT router, so you need to learn about STUN and the configuration. This site is a good read to understand the issue.

I found the instructions here helped me configure the PAP2 to deal with my NAT router.

    Hope that helps..
  • why would you need to change the unit to UK spec ? as purchased from amazon uk wouldnt they already be set to UK ?
  • The units sold by Amazon are only intended for use with Vonage.

When you connect to Vonage (which happens as soon as you power it up on an internet connected network) it will be upgraded and configured for UK.

This is called 'provisioning' and your unit will only be able to be used with Vonage in this state.

Before the unit is provisioned it is configured with US defaults.

In case anyone is concerned about any stock change at Amazon changing the preloaded firmware version, I received one today and it was firmware version 2.0.13(LSVd) so still OK for unlocking.

Thanks for the info all, I've been meaning to get a PAP2 for a bit now, but I've been a tad busy recently...

I wish I'd spied this thread a few weeks ago, the Amazon ones seem to be £40 now. :(
