  • Hi there,

I now have Voipcheap on Line 1 and Sipgate on Line 2. I only want to use one phone using Voipcheap for outgoing and Sipgate for incoming calls. Has anyone managed to get this working by either

    1) Phone plugged in to line 1 (Voipcheap). Calls received on Line 2 (Sipgate)are diverted to Line 1
    2) Phone plugged in to line 2. When you dial a number, it uses voipcheap to dial the call (using something similar to <:@.sip.voipcheap.com;usr="aaaa";pwd="bbb";nat=yes> in the dial plan)

Has anyone had any luck with this ?

    Thanks
    Steve

You need another firmware for that:

Incidentally, I picked up two PAP2-UV from Comet Norwich. There was one more left. They have unlockable 3.1.3 firmware.

  • JohnK,
Thanks for this. I have just read the post and chose to install the SPA001 - v3.1.8 firmware. So far so good, works like a dream. I have VoipCheap on Line 1 (Outgoing), Sipgate on Line 2 (Incoming) - both lines are accessed using a single phone plugged into Line 1.
    Cheers

People say in that thread that the modified 3.1.8 is less stable so many including me have downgraded to 3.1.5 after unlocking.

I did see this in the thread. I have downloaded 3.1.5 to my PC but haven't loaded it yet. There seemed to be mixed opinions on the 3.1.8 - I have made about 4/5 calls with the 3.1.8 and I did have a problem earlier where the line was dropped and the caller couldn't get a dialtone on their phone for about 2 mins - when I checked Voipcheap call details, it showed the call lasted about 5 mins even though I only actually spoke to them for 3 mins. I am not sure if this was a box problem or if this was related to Voipcheap.Com.
I will see how I get on over the next few days - and of course poist my findings
    Thanks

There are several service providers depending on what you want. ipkall give a free washington state number , stanaphone give you a new york number, broadvoice.com give you a US and unlimited voice calls , can also have a UK number added for $1.95 a month. Voipcheap and voipbuster give free calls after registration. That should do for starters.

How much are compusa selling these for?

It was $49.99 with a mail in $25 gift certificate so effectively $25.99 :)

I unlocked about 6 PAP2's last October. I have 2 in use in the house but I bought a 2 line cordless phone on Ebay to use Sipdiscount (out) and Sipgate (in). I see from your posts by flashing the Sipura firmware that a 2 line phone is no longer needed.

Currently I have to pay €11.60 to Sipdiscount every 4 months to keep my account active. Not exactly expensive for unlimited landline calls but I thought I would look at VoipCheap as you mentioned it in your post. I just used the VoipCheap software (rather than the PAP2) and it appears to allow free calls with no credit, even direct calls (callback) which should cost 3c connection with no credit. Their website states 300 minutes free use per week which should be enough.
Is this your experience of VoipCheap?

Other than 300 minutes per week are there any other restrictions i.e. single call no longer than x minutes etc? Sipdiscount can get too busy (always engaged), what is the service like with VoipCheap?
Before you buy Google Nest or British Gas Hive check out ESPproMon the Android and iOS Smartphone app that helps you build the same system from just £30.
  • Hi there,

I am using Voipcheap.Com (there is a Voicpcheap.co.uk as well). You still need to top up by €10 EUROS - although it is every 90 days on this site. A colleague of mine didn't top up and he made a couple of 15 min calls, but they all seem to be limited now although I think it was nearer 5 mins before you are cut off.

I am not a big user of the service - I have Pipex as my internet provider and they give me 3000mins free, so most of the time I use this. I only really use the Voipcheap as a 2nd line although it has been reliable when I have used it with the PAP2 -- I never tried it with their software (i only used thri software to create the account and then un-installed it).

The link pointed out by Johnk allows you to use a PAP2 with just one phone and it seems to work reliably.

I also have this plugged into a Skype Telbox (a B2K from https://www.mplat.com) which basically allows me to use the same phone for Skype as well. When I pick up the phone, it defaults to Line1 (Using Voipcheap) on the PAP2. If I press # it picks up Line2 (Sipgate - used for checking voicemail and dialling freephone numbers). If I press * it swaps over to Skype !!

If I get a phonecall on either Skype or my Line2 (Sipgate), the phone rings and I can pick up as normal. If it is a Sipgate call, I get caller ID and if it is from skype, the I see the User Id of the person.

Sounds a little complicated, but it does work.

  • Hi there,
Does anyone jnow what a Linksys Link VTA-UV. Is this another version of a PAP2 ? Can it be unlocked ?

The VTA-UV is available at http://www.comet.co.uk/comet/html/cache/68_339903.html although I can't seen to find it anywhere else. The picture is the same as a PAP2, but it isn't on the Linksys website.

    Thanks

"UV" is the Vonage specific unit.

As you'll see from previous postings on this thread, it you follow the instrustions carefully and know what you're doing it was possible to unlock the PAP2's (Vonage units) that Comet were selling at the start of the year.

I would'nt be so convinced that any new batch that Comet have might be "un-lockable" .... unless you can be certain this is really old stock, and has not had the memory "Flashed", or they have previously been connected to the internet or vonage (which would render them useless for unlocking).

    Hope that helps.
