ok i've just been sent some files to unlock the pap2 v2 box and need someone to confirm that the VTA-UV is the same as the pap2 v2? if it is I'll grab one from comet
  • Hi there,
For details on the Dlink VTA, please see this thread -- You can unlock them. I have bought one, but I haven't tried it yet. The configuration sounds a litle trickier than the Pap2, but it sounds like it may be worth the investment.

  • Sven,
have you been successfull in unblocking the Dlink VTA-UV, which is till sold at Comet? (http://www.comet.co.uk/comet/html/cache/68_339903.html)

    Is it an easy process?
  • Hi CodeTown,
I have succeeded in unlocking, but I have only made a few calls with it - call quality was good. The process was not that easy, but if you are good at following instructions and have good PC knowledge then you should be able to do it.
    Start with this thread ...

    http://www.dslreports.com/forum/rema...8441~days=9999

    ... basically, you have to
    1) Disconnect your broadband connection to ensure the device doesn't contact Vonage and provision itself.
    2) Plug the VTA-UV into your router and it will automatically get a IP address via DHCP. Find out what the IP address is
    3) Punch the IP address into your webbroswer and you should get a login screen. Enter user/user into the boxes and you will have the basic admin page where you can configure a fixed IP address in if you wan't
    3) Run the tool - I think cyt_39c_win32 is the latest - it is available from one of threads in the link above. You may need to disable your firewall to get the tool to run. You will need to enter the IP address into tool - should be fairly self explanatory - read the txt fiel that come with the tool as you need to put DLINK on the end of the filename to get it to work with a DLINK VTA.
    4) Once the tool is run, you can use the username and password that the tool provides to log back into the router (admin/admin I think). This time you have admin access and can access the SIP settings page.
    5) To configure the SIP settings, you can enter them from this page but I could not get it to work (and most other people had problems as well). I had to download a provisioning file from vonage and then enter my SIP settings (for Voipcheap.Com). Instructions from doing this are in the thread above and go something like tftp -i ti.tftp.vonage.net GET /folder/ti010203040506.xml (The folder is the folder specifid on the provisioning page of your adapter and the 0102...etc should be replaced with the MAC address of your adapter).
    6) Once you have this file then you need to decrypt using RC4
to decrpyt with Provision Key (available from the Provisioning page on your adapter) - see the bargainshare link at the botoom of this email.
    7) You then need to modify the file. I used someone else file from the link above as a guide - there are some lines you need to delete. It is important to modify the provisioning lines (you can remove the text) otherwise it will re enter the vonage provisioning server details and then relock it (yes I did this !) and you have to start again.
    8) To get the file on the adapter, you then need to setup a TFTP server on your PC and put the unencrypted/modified file in the root directory of the TFTP server. I used http://www.solarwinds.net/Tools/Free_tools...erver/index.htm
    9) Lastly on the provisioning page of the adapter, enter the IP address of your PC (with the TFTP server running) in to the respective field on the provisioning webpage and then reboot. This tells the adapter to retrive the provisioning file from your PC rather than contact Vonage.
    10) You should see the adapter login to thte TFTP server (in the TFTP Server log) and downoad the unencrypted/modified provisioning file.
    11) Plug your braodband connection back in to test.
If you get it to work first time, then well done - but it took me a few attempts and I had to re-read the instaructions on the dslreports link a few times. I also had to experiment with the SIP settings to get it to work. One thing I remember doing was to enter the DNS server addresses from my ISP on the config page of the VTA-UV.
These instructions were done from memory and are just a summary - everything I needed to do was on the link above apart from the RC4 tools which I got from this page http://www.bargainshare.com/index.php?showtopic=87504&st=30 This page also has more information (be aware, not all of it is relevant to the VTA-UV).
    Hope this helps
    Good luck

  • Someone has very kindly produced a guide to this procedure which is a little more comprehensive than the instructions I described above. It is available at http://www.dslreports.com/r0/download/1070305~dbe1a1e9a1dbc9b3f61a7882775aaaf2/Guide.zip

Also, it is possible to just have one phone plugged into the VTA-UV and then have one SIP line enabled for outgoing and the other for incoming (using the same phone). I haven't verified this procedure, but people have reported it works on this thread -- http://www.dslreports.com/forum/remark,16748441~days=9999~start=260 (see the last post on this page).

There are many reports on the site about the PAP2, but this box seems to do just as good a job (albeit slightly harder to configure).

    Hope this helps someone.

I haven't seen any for a while in the UK for £20.00 - They had some PAP2 v2 in the US for abou $45.00

I wonder if they can be unlocked I hear they're recalling them to flash with new firmware?
  • The PAP2 v2 can be unlocked - try this thread

Checked the procedure and it works. I now have Viopcheap.com on line 1 and Sipgate.co.uk on line 2 using the same phone.

Viopcheap offers free landline calls to a number of countries (incl UK) for a €10 EUROS credit investment (valid for 90 days after which it costs 1 euro cent per min until you top up again). Sipgate gives me a free incoming number which is in the same areas code as my current number.
