Unlocking a £20 Linksys PAP2 VoIP adapter

I placed an order with dabs.com for the Linksys Pap2 @ £19.96. The adapter was out of stock when I placed the order but was showing that 33 were due in soon (and 466 ordered on request i.e. other people had placed orders).
My order status was showing out of stock but now it says order completed; does this mean that they are going to send it in the next few days?? Their website still says 33 due in soon (rather than 33 in stock). Can anyone shed some light on how dabs.com works? Thanks.0 -
Ok, I received my order yesterday. One small problem (as has been discussed), I need a rj11 adapter to connect the phone. Someone mentioned on an earlier post that you can get one for about 75p from somewhere, but for the life of me I can't find where I read the post!0

Looks like I may have missed out on this one, I last looked at PAP's about a year ago and couldn't justify the cost. £20 was a reasonable price, does anyone know if there is anywhere left where I can get one of these. The problem with skype is that I find my laptop a bit big to carry around the house, and would also mean I have to leave it on and my battery only lasts a few hours.
I call the states a lot and am at present using the 18185 service ( 1/2p min) and havent found many VOIP providers that can beat this , however I have found a few providers that provide free local numbers in the US , therefore I could get called back if I can find a PAP. Thanks

They are still available in some comet stores - I have had 2 in last month from Milton Keynes , and my friend got one in Northampton (they still had a few left there too)0

Howdy do folks, I've got my PAP2 running Voipcheap here in the UK courtesy of Vonage @ CompUSA in Utah
I've found a couple of quirks with the hacking experience - hacking is really on the the beginning of the learning curve to be honest!
...Very reminiscent of my initial attempts at hacking an Xbox :P
So far, all is well but I did have a period where I could only call out and hear the other party but they could not hear me...somehow one of the IP addresses changed by one digit - even although I did not change any settings.
Overall, I'm very pleased with the little silver box which is paired to a nice Uniden cordless phone with excellent audio quality.
Any dial plan experts here then?0 -
There are several service providers depending on what you want. ipkall give a free washington state number , stanaphone give you a new york number, broadvoice.com give you a US and unlimited voice calls , can also have a UK number added for $1.95 a month. Voipcheap and voipbuster give free calls after registration. That should do for starters.
How much are compusa selling these for?0 -
Hi there,
This thread has been idle for a while, but I thought I would let you know I called in at Comet in Stevenage and they had an adapter (just one - Model PAP2-UV) on the shelf for £19.99. I took it to the till and it went through for £14.99 - a bargain. Following the notes on this thread, I successfully unlocked it (sorry - didn't take a note of the orignial firmware version). It is now running v3.6 (LS) and is connected to voipcheap and works perfectly.
For all those people who posted hints and tips in this thread - a big Thankyou
Steve
