Table-top halogen ovens

you don't need any special recipes. Just cook anything in the halogen oven that you would normally cook in a conventional oven. If you cook a casserole type dish - remember to put it in a covered dish inside the oven or it will burn on top as if it was under a grill. I made this mistake at first as I wss misled by th promotional sales pitch on tv. It's all just trial and error really. Good luck. I love mine.0

I bought mine from the Idealworld tv channel whilst they were running a big promo in the Summer. Most savoury things I have tried have been good except the quiche which resulted in rather soggy pastry on the bottom. Baked potatoes, pizza, Hm potatoe wedges etc have been great. My baking has not been so productive. I have tried both sponge cake & ginger cake with similarly disappointing results i.e. a cooked top but runny bottom!! Even the yummy weetabix brownies had to be turned out of the tray & put back in on the round flat tray to cook the underside. The fruit crumble I made eventually cooked but the fruit filling was still quite hard. The Jam buns I made cooked fine but were time consuming as the round baking tray is small & only holds 5 - 6 at a time.
The chef demonstrating the cooker gave directions for cooking your xmas cake in it. I followed the instructions to the letter but it took double the time it would have taken in my conventional oven and resulted in a very dry, hard crust and a soft, quite uncooked bottom. I threw the lot in the bin. I am beginning to think that any kind of cake tin/ silicon/ glass dish prevents the bottom from cooking properly.
I bought this oven as I thought it would be economical as my energy budget is limited. I will now have to revert to a regular 'baking day' using my conventional fan oven & bake many items at once to justify the cost..
If it went bust I'm not sure I would rush out & buy another. When I grow up I want to be a M.S.E.!!0 -

I put tinfoil over my cakes and they come out fine. You need to tuck it under the tin otherwise the fan blows it up to the top of the oven. I also use the little rack to keep the tin off the bottom of the oven.
Might help to turn the temp down a bit too, to give the bottom a chance to bake before the top does.0 -
I have never made cakes in my HO but for all other things I definitely find cooking on a lower temperature and then whacking it up for browning towards the end gives the best results.Grocery Challenge £139/240 until 31/01

I think you can buy a halogen which comes with a years guarantee and take out a warranty for about a tenner to cover years two and three.
I tend not to buy warranties but might do with the halogen if I go for one.0 -

You would think they would make them so that the bulb can be replaced easily ?0
