Nothing worse than getting something mail order and when it arrives the thing doesn't work.0

I have to confess to 'OPERATOR ERROR'. My halogen oven was returned to me this evening. Apparently if the handle is up it switches off and needless to say I tried it with the handle up.
I will retry tomorrow.0 -
They have 11 ltr Halogen cookers in our local RANGE for £34.99I used to be indecisive but now I am not sure.0

Well my Halogen oven finally appeared. Apparently the bad weather affected delivery.
So far I've cooked:
potato wedges (from raw potatoes)
oven chips
cookies
muffins
lasagne
salmon
pizza
macaroni pie
grilled sandwhiches
burgers (frozen)
So what worked and what didn't.
Chips and wedges are a complete success from frozen or fresh. Tastey, crispy
grilling works really well too, bacon, cheese on toast, tuna melts.
Coockies worked really well, I made eggless carrot and treacle cookies.
Burgers came out succulent, macaroni pie hot and well toasted on top.
Hmm lasagne worked ok, but I needed to put it further down as it browned on top too quickly. Salmon was really nice, but veg was too crunchy. I cooked them all together, but I think that it would have worked better if I'd blanched the veg first.
Muffin...hmm they worked fine, made sure I covered them, so not too brown too quick, but they were I bit too moist, but I think that was my fault. They needed a bit longer.
Pizza - well too soft on bottom, but this was a frozen pizza. I folded it in half and he had it as a calzone. I think I'll experiment with home made bases or I'm sure I heard someone say something about cooking it upside down first.
Overall I'm really pleased. Now I just have to work on the OH using it a bit more."A banker is a fellow who lends you his umbrella when the sun is shining, but wants it back the minute it begins to rain." Mark Twain0 -

I don't know if this would help with your pizzas but I remember this item from Dragons' Den a while back. I googled it and found this link

I remember the program well because they seriously took the pee at first until they realised he had designed and printed the packaging, had had a few made, and just needed some backing to put it out there. They really changed their tunes when they realised the guy wasn't a buffoon. He got the backing too. He went on there with the cure for the "soggy middle" in a pizza.0 -
im still only using my halogen oven for grilling bacon etc..despite my better judgment i did try and cook another chicken--it was horrible,(cookbook with it stated a full chicken would cook in 60=90mins at 200c),but after 60mins,the top was overdone with the skin bubbled n blistered, but when i turned it over to cook from the other side bright red fresh blood poured from it...basicaly the top was overcook but the middle +bottom was raw--again....nearly enough to put us off meat(but it fed our wee dog for almost a week...couldnt risk feeding it to family, all that raw blood spilling over cooked breast meat etc.YUCK.
sorry probably too much info:o

Hi everyone
I bought one when my big oven broke down in the summer. I love it. I read the cook book that came with it and tried a few things from it but decided to use it just like my big oven re timings and temperatures etc - I find it works just fine like this. I know people who cook whole chickens in theirs with great success, but I haven't attempted this so I can't tell you how they go about it.
It does fab chips, wedges, roast and jacket potatoes, fish fingers, burgers, cheese on toast, sausages, yorkshire puddings, ready meals (you need to take them out of their plastic containers and put in a pyrex dish) - in fact anything you would normally cook in the big oven and can fit in the halogen oven cooks great. I have done a pork joint in it and managed to get some pork dripping from it and also I did a small beef joint.
I don't think I would try to cook rice in it. Do you have a steamer? I do mine in there and it is always light and fluffy. If I wouldn't cook it in the regular oven, I don't put it in the halogen oven.
But the best result was the saving on my fuel bill from not using the big oven. So even though the big oven now works, I seldom use it.
