What's the best deal/s fro people stuck with NTL?

Dedicated thread to NTL here icon7.gif

CPS is where you put your calls through another provider if you are with BT although on NTL you can put your calls through Onetel and they will give you a box which enables this.

Martin's article about it is here.

Im with BT and the call option for evening and weekends, think it option2 or summat, dunno what a crs is

Okay Helen, you should phone BT and get put onto Option1 which is basic line rental at a rate of £11 per month now if paid by dd.

Then you need to sign up for a CPS (this means your calls go through another company) such as the following taken from Martin's article.

Two CPS providers Just-Dial Saver* Lite and Primus Saver have permanent ‘free’ evening and weekend calls to UK landlines without a monthly fee, (most companies usually charge around £4/month).

Yet Just-Dial Saver Lite (part of the One-Tel/British Gas group) is top pick, as it’s free for the first 2 hours of a call, but Primus is just 90 minutes. After that you pay 1p/min;better still put the phone down and re-dial before the two hours ends, and the call stays free.

Although Just-Dial comes up as a better deal a lot of people have had problems with the customer service department.

So this gives you line rental and free evening and w/end calls but if you find you use the phone through the day you should think about signing up for https://www.call1899.co.uk for calls to 01/02 numbers at 0p per minute with a 3p connection charge. If you dial mobiles a lot (might be now the dd has a mobile!) the best option is https://www.call18185.co.uk.

I'll let you digest that but come back if you have any more questions.

Ok, so if i sign to one of the above and i use my phone in the day am i charged by BT or the above?
  • You are charged by 1899/18185 and they bill you on a monthly basis provided your account with them is enough for them to bother, if not they roll it over and sometimes I can go three/four months without getting a bill.

Usually they will bill you the first month, just to make sure that your chosen method of payment goes through.

Using 1899 means that you can call for as long as you like for just 3p.

edited to add that if you sign for Just Dial or Primus and use your phone through the day without going through the likes of 1899 etc you will be billed by them as all your calls will go through them and only your line rental will be billed by BT.

So i can sign up to primus for free evening and weekend calls and also need to sign up with 1899 for daytime calls (not that i really use the phone in the day) Any cash back sites i need to go through ;):D
  • I don't think I am explaining this very well. icon11.gif

Using a CPS like JustDial for instance means all your calls go through them unless you route them through someone else. Your line rental would be to BT and calls to JustDial.

BUT you can then route calls elsewhere like 1899 by dialing 1899 then the full number you are calling and that means the call goes through and will be billed by 1899.

  • Sorry, I cross posted there and you have it right! Took me three days with Glad to get her sorted icon12.gif

The beauty with 1899 is there is no monthly charge so if you don't use it you don't get billed.

Ah but I guarantee that the three bills will be cheaper than the one from BT.
