  • Just thought that you would like to know that as from today, with no e-mail to it's customers, Call1899 has raised it's rates for those of us using a non-BT line. Calls to UK landlines via the freephone number are no longer free but 0.5p a minute. Haven't had time to work out the impact of this but it is obviously going to cost significantly more than before when all you were paying for UK landline calls was the 3p connection charge.
CHAPS requested 10 Oct, left KE 15 Oct, finally arrived 18.00, 4th Nov :D

Actually, it happened 3 days ago - see HERE.
Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.
  • I have been plagued with unsolicited sales calls from Toucan Telecom offering all calls and unlimited dial-up internet for £9.99 a month. They are VERY persistent. Is this a legit offer and are they any good? Or are they, as I think, a cowboy outfit?
  • I have heard of them offering all calls for £9.99 but not including internet as well? Have they said if this is for 12 months?

If it was just all calls (ie geographical 01 & 02 numbers) and not internet then there are slightly cheaper options available like Tele2 for £7.49 per month.
  • And TalkTalk are offering £7.99 per month and free for 6 months
  • And TalkTalk are offering £7.99 per month and free for 6 months

Only if you take their line rental though!!!!
  • I thought I had all this sussed when I read Martin's article and switched a few weeks to using 1899 during the day and Just Dial saver for evenings & weekends only.

This morning I needed to dial an 0845 number and when I used 1899 I thought it said 4 pence a minute. Did I hear correctly?

I tried searching the Just Dial website and also this thread for any reference to cost of diallling 0845 numbers, but other than Just Dial stating that NGN's are not included in the free calls it does not say how much I would be charged. Can anyone help; is it cheaper to stick with BT for NGN's please?
  • Here's a cut and paste from an email to me from them.

    "The rates are as follows:

    0845 - 3.5p per minute,
    0870 - 7.4p per minute."

I wouldn't put too much faith in them though as you can see by comments earlier in this thread that they have got things wrong before.

BT is cheaper for 0845 numbers but 18185 is cheaper for 0870 numbers icon7.gif
