Can anyone please tell me if it is possible to use 1899 if you rent your phone line from the Post Office? PO Homephone is £9.95 versus BT £10.50 per month. Many thanks.0

It might work but they can bar it.Where as BT cant.
PO line rental with caller display.£11.70p, same thing on BT £10.50p.
Then their is the maintenance issue to consider.0 -

Thanks for this. Can you clarify what you mean by 'maintenance'?0 -
You pay BT for your line rental. Your line developes a fault. You dial 151 and report the fault. BT investigate the fault. BT fix the fault.
You pay the Post Office for line rental. Your line developes a fault. You dial whatever number the Post Office gives you for fault reporting and report the fault. The Post Office reports the fault to BT. BT logs the fault to be dealt with after BT customers' faults are dealt with. BT eventually investigates the fault. BT fixes the fault.
Spot the in-built delay there?Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.0 -
I thought I would e-mail to Just Dial Saver with a couple of queries to test their customer response. The e-mail could not be delivered, the automatic mailer gave up after trying to deliver the e-mail several times. This does not inspire me with any confidence in this company. Has anyone else had any experience with this company?0

I have also tried to email Just Dial Saver with no luck, it doesn't give you much confidence!! I have been trying to find out what hours constitute Evenings and Weekends?
Does anybody else know?0 -
I've been with Just Dial for over a year and in the past their customer services did eventually reply to e-mail queries - not usually within the 2 working days they say now!
I was very surprised and I guess pleased when they changed their packages to offer free weekend and evening calls earlier this year.
However, following Martin's naming of them as a 'Best Buy!' any pretence at customer service has completely disappeared!
I only hope that it just because they are completely swamped but I guess the worry is that with so many new people trying to join up for a completely free service at weekends and evenings that they are realising that if they continue to offer this for free they will never make any money at all - and although we money savers want a good deal, the realities of the world have to come into play and we may have to accept the reality of the saying 'There is no such thing as a free lunch.....!'
It might be preferable to pay a very small fee, and for them to make some profit, and for the service to continue rather than try and get something for nothing and the system to collapse.....
Sorry if that's a bit deep and depressing!
Any thoughts on that?!0 -
Heinz, thanks for this. I think that I will stick with BT and 1899. Keep life simple.0

My son is moving out to his own home and is about to discover the real cost of hours on the internet. what would be the best set of providers for him as a new customer?
He will be a light user of telephone at weekend and evenings only but will be downloading music video etc on internet. Lowest startup info would be useful.
Sorry if this is in wrong place. This is my first post and I think I have butted in on a thread.0
