    Hi,
In the article "Cheapest calls provider etc." Martin seems to favour 1899 but points out the minor(?) problem of direct debit on debit or credit card which is unstoppable.
18866 on the other hand are for uk landlines exactly the same & offer the option of changing or arranging payment by proper bank D/D which is stoppable. If the reason is overall that 1899 is better for some o/seas & mobile rates then perhaps that should be highlighted. The use of 18866 overcomes the (to some) problem of personal control.

But if you are a cable user/mobile user then 1899 is cheaper.

    Hi pf,
Must admit to age related lack of ability to follow all things techie, but I do try (a bit!!!).
I rather got the impression from the article (al?) that BT line rental came into the equation, in which case perhaps it is aimed @ landline users rather than cable/mobile users?

Tony B. I was merely pointing out to readers that if you were a cable or mobile user 1899 was cheaper then 18866. :D

    Yes, I do.

    No, it won't.
Their - possessive pronoun (owned by them e.g. "They locked their car").
    They're - colloquial/abbreviated version of 'They are'
There - noun (location other than here e.g. "You can buy groceries there") OR adverb (in or at that place e.g. "They have lived there for years") OR adverb (to or towards that place e.g. "Go there at noon") OR adverb (in that matter e.g. " I agree with you there").

The times on the back of a BT Bill only relate to BT.(Not all carriers have followed their money grabbing example of extending their peak rate).

BT. Peak Period 6am to 6pm Mon to Fri.

JDS. Peak Period 8am to 6pm Mon to Fri.

It actually depends on length of call.

3 min mobile call on JDS weekends capped at 15p.
    3 min mobile call on 18185 10p.

6 min mobile on JDS weekends capped at 15p
    6 min mobile call 18185 12p +4p connection 16p.

20 min mobile call on JDS weekends capped at 15p.
    20 min mobile call on 18185 40p +4p connection 44p.

I choose 18185 because providing you dont make lots of short mobile calls, and dont make lots of long over 20 minutes one JDS would normally be cheaper.

Am I right in thinking that after 20 minutes the whole phone call reverts to being charged at JD's mobile rates? Where do we find their call charges??

So... if the mobile phone call will last either less than 6 minutes or more than 20 then 18185 is cheapest, but between 6 mins and 20 mins JD would have been cheaper? Time to buy everyone stopwatches :D
  • I notice that British Gas are now doing free evening and weekends for local and national calls.
