Thanks for the info, yes I too have just had a notification email from 18866 saying that they were putting their connection charge up to 4p a minute. i am definitely going to finish with them.
Does anyone know how you do finish with these people. I have a direct debit with 18866 and for completness would like to scrub this.
I have also started with Just-dial saver. Another question is that does anyone know when the evening rate time starts and finishes? I have looked on the Just-dial website and cant find anything on the subject. I assume that the weekend free rate starts at 1200 midnight fri until 1200 midnight sunday.
If it is of use to anyone. For some numbers on Just-dial they are more expensive, like 0845 and 0870 so for example 0845 might be cheaper on BT. In order to dial BT and opt out of Just-dial saver you need to dial prefix number 1280 first, then the 0845 or whatever.
Another useful VOIP company is voipcheap.com. I have joined up with them and call through my broadband and calling uk landlines using 01 02 numbers are free anytime! even Germany, Spain, France, Australia, America are free (and many others)and also free to some mobiles. Ie America - landlines free and to mobiles Free.

No.
4p (not per minute).Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.0 -

Pains in the bum!!
Cheers for the tip-off murphz1 as I haven't received the email yet :T but I have followed your lead and signed up at call1899.co.ukHistory repeats itself

hi im with onetel and 18866 if iwant to cancel i8866 how do igo about it my charges are automaticall taken off my debit card would you just stop using it and change over to someone else any advice would be helpful thanks0

If you want to close the account, just tell them. I wouldn't rush though, as if 1899 also increase to 4p connection, there will be no difference for UK calls from BT lines.0

thanks redux ill hang fire awhile harryk0

Its also worth your while signing up for https://www.call18185.co.uk as the charges for mobiles are only 5p a minute through the week with a 4p connection charge dialing through BT0

With all these companies stopping getting billed by them is dead simple - just stop dialling their prefix
I have signed up for all 3 and use the Orchid dialer to choose which to use - if I stop if dialling 18866 then 18866 have nothing to bill me for .... until they become cheapest again ....
Getting to be a royal PITA though all this swapping and changing
How long does the 5p minimum charge on BT get you??0 -

At Evenings and Weekends you can speak for up to 60 minutes for 5.5p on BT.Which is adequate for most folks Other suppliers are cheaper and also offer free evening and weekend calls to 01/02 numbers.
They all also offer more choices of how you can pay,and you can get through at the weekend without problems.
Compared to the free call providers, no plan charge,it is already more expensive to use 1899/18866/18185 to make 01/02 calls at Evenings and Weekends if your call lasts less then an hourish. If they carry on at the rate they are going even BT will be as competive for E&W calls.
I have stopped using 1899 on E&W and now use Primus Saver.Calls to 01/02 are free, and i no longer have problems getting through, and i can pay by d/d.0 -

Yeah that was my point - I think most will have done CPS to get free E&W calls - if not then 4p connect as opposed to 5.5p connect for "free" calls won't persuade many to swap.
Daytime calls seems to be the biggest saving now - whats BT charging those at?0
