  • If you dial 1899 before the number you are calling the calls will be routed through 1899. If you use 1280 before the number they will go through BT.

If you just dial the number the calls will go through Just Dial if they are your CPS icon7.gif

Yes, i need to know that, too.
  • Can someone please clarify - the 18866 site appears to say all UK calls have 4p connection charge. Is MSE slacking?

    How do you mean?
Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.

I want to sign up to JustDial and 1899. I'm currently signed up with OneTel and 18866. I realise that 18866 is not a problem, and can run concurrenly with 1899. I presume I have to cancel OneTel before I sign up to JustDial?

Thanks for your help. Also, I never realised you had to dial 1280 for BT. I always want to use the cheapest available, and thought that the cheapest would apply if I used them. (Eg, OneTel have free calls at the weekend. In fact, I've never dialled 1280. When would I need to??) Sorry, finding this a bit confusing. (I'm at that age, I'm afraid. Just about everything confuses me!! <g>)

Found what you mean now (on THIS page).

I agree the red text in the paragraph below is now out-of-date but think it's just that updating has been overlooked and isn't some sort of conspiracy.
Call1899 charges 3p per call to a landline i.e. just 3p no matter how long you speak (technically it’s a 3p connection charge then 0p/min), joint cheapest with its sister company call18866. So an hour’s daytime call is just 3p compared to £1.20 with JustDial (2p/min) or £1.80p with BT (3p/min).
Edinburghlass, can you ask whoever deals to do the necessary please?

    A strange one

JustDial have charged me £1 for something that I just cannot figure out. It simply appeared as a debit on my account with a '0' code alongside and which was then collected by direct debit. It was not a call charge as I have only used them at the 'free' times and my call record shows no charges at all.

I have asked over and over for an explanation with no reply forthcoming. Obviously, if I canceled my DD then it would really be a bit of cutting off my nose to spite my face as the system seems to work very well.

I know it's only £1 but it's the principal of the thing and their complete lack of support or explanation that is worrying me.

Has anyone had something similar happen or could offer an explanation?

    Terry
