I wanna add my bit.... that I use https://www.simplyfone.com for all my International calls from my BT phone at home & work.
Although they're tiny bit dearer [my calls via SF are to: PAKISTAN & PAK MOBILE 10p & Israel landline 3p & Israel mobile 7p] the qualirty is fantastic and connects every time..
Every time i use the above companies - even though cheaper - i cannot get thru & i get charged a connection charge EVERYTIME![i suppose BT's 5p minimum charge]

I worked out the diff & as most of my calls overseas from bt lines are not too long, i save dramatically AND I DONT NEED TO DIAL SEVERAL TIMES TO connect :p

Its a good service from a mobile where its included in the your inclusive minutes. But calls to to 077449 numbers are charged at the BT FM2 rate from a BT landline.Which is approx 24p peak, 17p evenings,7p weekends. So its not that cheap is it.

Also BT also make a min charge of 5p if you dont get through using the 07744 acess no.

    NO ...
    u misunderstood ny posting...

(i use the 07744 number too from my mobile) BUT. i meant the 0844/0870 type service they also have - like dialwise/dialaround etc . On their website simplyfone.com they've got a button called DIRECTORY which also gives all details/rates/access numbers this call-thru thing service from bt lines & on that product - although not the cheapest - they are certainly the best quality [seems to me] apparetly they take the calls via BT so thats why its so good qyality.

i understand that talktalk charge 4.5p per min. at all times for non-geo no.s
so that means that i can make international phone calls to pakistan, india and other destinations thru telestunt 0871 at 4.5 per min.
i will try this, make a short call and will know if its correct when my bill arrives.
please feel free to correct me if i am wrong!!!!!!!!!!
    Nice to save.

  • I may be repeating information that you already know but I took your advice and used 0870- national rate numbers on "3" mobile to access international numbers (from CallChecker) since you said these were included in the bundled minutes. Maybe they used to be, but my latest bill shows that this is no longer the case and I have been charged for each minute used so the cost of calling via this route is not such a great deal after all.

Incidently I love CallChecker and I also realize that you are keeping up with the deals as fast as you can - so I am a big :T :T fan, not a   whinger!!!!
  • This is great, my girlfirend is living inthe states at the moment, is there a similar service available to her so she can call my mobile in the uk from her cell cheaply?

I have just reverted to PAYG Orange and am about to follow your Unlock advice, as phone is simply not working in my village(despite Orange insistence that I am in a 'strongest coverage' area). Search for Network coverage brings up O2, One-tel and sometimes Vodaphone. Do they show in alphabetical or reception strength order? Also, who is cheapest for UK Mobile to France Mobile calling please. Again, many thanks for all the wonderful help on this site, passed on to four others this last week.

  • Am a bit confused as to how much I will be charged fby BT for using the simply dial providers, such as telestunt, after reading the article about "say no to 0870 numbers" Will I be charged just the one off connection fee, or will it depend how long my call lasts?
Sorry if this is a silly question!
