So the 1280 takes you back to BT from onetel, and therefore the charge will be through BT as opposed to Onetel

    Thanks for your help.

Yes if you have to ring NGN 0844/0845/0870/0871 numbers BT are the cheapest provider of calls to them.

Part of the Furniture 1,000 Posts Name Dropper I've been Money Tipped!
I normally call Spain twice daily: 15 min in the morning 20-30 in the evening i.e. after six.

Up to now I have been using 1899 at 2 pence a minute but I now see that there are three other providers offering Spain at 1p a minute: DialAround, Dialwise, and Abroadtel. So I'll be switching to one of these suppliers.

My question is though if you are only calling one country is there an even cheaper way to do it. Any way of getting calls for free.

    Kevin.
  • I apologise if this question has been asked before, but if I am calling an 0844 number from a BT landline, do BT make a charge for that call in addition to the charge I might incur from a low-cost provider?

I currently use 18866 to call Belgian landlines and that is a straight 2p/min with no extra BT charge. I think that if I changed to say BudgetCom I would be charged their 1p/min to call Belgium + a 1p BT connection charge?

    Or, maybe I'm wrong?

    Thank you for any help

    cccharles,

There is no such thing as a BT 'connection charge' - they impose a 5p minimum call charge.

However, if you are dialling the 18866 prefix, you are not using BT so you will only be charged by 18866.

If you change to using an 0844 number to make those calls to Belgium at 1p/minute, you will be charged by BT - so 5p minimum but 1p/minute (i.e. BT will charge you their minimum call charge of 5p for a call of 1, 2, 3 or 4 minutes and, after 5 minutes, the 5p minimum call charge is exceeded so becomes irrelevant and the 1p/minute charge takes over - so a 5 minute call will cost 5p, a 6 minute call will cost 6p and so on).
Their - possessive pronoun (owned by them e.g. "They locked their car").
    They're - colloquial/abbreviated version of 'They are'
There - noun (location other than here e.g. "You can buy groceries there") OR adverb (in or at that place e.g. "They have lived there for years") OR adverb (to or towards that place e.g. "Go there at noon") OR adverb (in that matter e.g. " I agree with you there").

You can still call Spain on 1899 for 1p/minute (my wife does every weekend) - but you have to use their 08081708708 number instead of the 1899 prefix.

Is there some way of using theses 'access number' suppliers to fax? Obviously the software sees the line as engaged after the access number is dialled....????

    thanks

When you call from the UK,a UK mobile that is roaming abroad, you the caller pay exactly the same as if you were ringing it in the UK.

The reciever of the calls pays for the second leg of the call eg UK-Egypt.
