Anyone know why the dial-through companies change their numbers when they're not changing prices?
I use DialWise to call Spain and, until last week, the number was 08448614545 - 1p/minute.
This week I notice the number has changed and is now 08448614747 - 1p/minute.
Why change?Their - possessive pronoun (owned by them e.g. "They locked their car").
They're - colloquial/abbreviated version of 'They are'
There - noun (location other than here e.g. "You can buy groceries there") OR adverb (in or at that place e.g. "They have lived there for years") OR adverb (to or towards that place e.g. "Go there at noon") OR adverb (in that matter e.g. " I agree with you there").0 -
I pay only 3.33333333333333p per minute when calling mobile phones in Egypt(Land lines are a little more expensive) with a Uni Tel calling card. Cards are available from some shops selling international calling cards. Their web site is https://www.lycatel.com customer service number 0207 101 2250/0207 987 3340. I find the service excellent, better than many others and I have tried many service providers in the past.0

Ratebuster seems to have fallen off the list of phone companies - still 13p/min for Kenyan mobiles... I wonder if the webmaster can get them included in the list again?0

I regret to have to say that I have found another comparison site far more reliable and user-friendly and use it all the time now.
Unlike the MSE CallChecker, it has the added advantage of making it possible to store a favourite with the country you want to compare forming part of the url. I, for example, normally just want to be aware of the cheapest way to call Spain so I simply store the url which gives one click access:

Last month I made a number of calls to oversees destinations via numbers found on the "call checker". Several times I was connected to the carrier but not connected to the destination number. The calls should all have been at 1 pence per min. Today I received my bill from TalkTalk, which I use for the free calls only (otherwise I use 18866). TalkTalk has connected me to the dial direct carriers and not BT (I should have realised this would happen) and charged me at 5 pence per min including VAT.
There were two lessons for me here: (1) using dialled direct I am charged for failed connections which included the busy signal; (2) the carrier pre select providers do not comply with the dial direct carriers pricing (which I suppose is understandable).
As it tuns out it would have been very much cheaper to have used call1899 at only 2 pence per min . . . Ho Hum.0 -
I dont know what Talk Talk charge to call 0844 numbers its possible that they charge 5p for every 0844 instead of 5p,2p,or1p depending on its code. You need to check this with them.
Your best option when dialling NGN 0844/0845/0870 numbers (if you have CPS your calls to another provider Eg Talk Talk) is to use BT 1280 override code to put your call through BT who offer the best NGN rates still. This only works if your line rental is still with BT).If you had done this BT would have only charged you 1p a min, subject to min call charge of 5p.PF.0 -
I can't see their price for calls to 0844 numbers on their website but they certainly apply a minimum call charge of 5p - so each of those incomplete international calls would have cost you at least 5p.Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.0
