RateBuster (09116777777) is 13p/min to Kenya mobiles - the callchecker shows the cheapest to be DialWise @ 15p/min
  • 1899 & 18866 are still not showing on callchecker for USA landlines or mobiles

I reported that on your behalf to callchecker@moneysavingexpert.com

    The reply was:
Many thanks for bringing this to my attention. Apologies also for not picking this up sooner.

Call18866 and 1899 have now been added to the CallChecker for the USA.

Unfortunately, due to the way the CallChecker updating system works, it's dependant on the data that the web-site return, and the format in which they are displayed.

It seems like these sister companies changed the name for USA recently, which has caused the fault.

    Thanks,
    MSE CallChecker Admin
I see it's working properly again now.

P.S. I do hope they got permission from George W before changing America's name!

  • Hi

I'm new to this so bear with me. Can anyone answer this questions?

I've got an account with Tele2 who charge 2.5p per minute to call Spain. If they have taken over the calls from BT for me can I still use the cheaper 'simply phone' options that are on the Calls Checker?

I'm on OneTel CPS (similar to Tele2 CPS) and, to call Spain, I use DialWise or DialAround (both charge 1p/minute at any time).

I don't know what Tele2 charge for calls to DialWise's or DialAround's 0844 numbers so it might be wise to prefix with 1280 and send the calls via BT (to ensure you get the 1p/minute rate).

  • Just checked phone bill, used Dialaround 08448 617171 supposed to be 1p per min. Got charged 8p for 2mins36sec call to spain.
My main telecom supplier is NTL.
    Am I doing something wrong??

It sounds like NTL aren't obliged to match the rates that BT would charge. You could try checking it with them. If they don't budge then an account with 1899 would charge 1p/min via a free 08081 number

    Thanks.

I changed from using 1899 to call Spain (on my BT line) at the beginning of April when they put the price up from 1p to 2p/minute (using the 1899 prefix).

I didn't realise I could've just changed to using the 08081708708 route to keep the 1p/minute rate.

    I will now!

I didn't realise straight away myself! I pressed the wrong favourites link first and put 2p there, then realised and was surprised so edited it. But now I think about it someone mentioned something like this the other day. They change rates once in a while, so maybe this is a mistake; see what the tariff announcement says.
