    In response to your query:

    (1) Your boyfriend will pay to receive the call, but, as Heinz said in an earlier post, this is completely normal - anybody who has a cellphone in the US will be familiar with the concept of paying both to make and receive calls and they usually get a LOT more free minutes than we do in the UK to make up for it. If you called him on a landline, he would not pay to receive the call. Using DialAbroad will not affect how much he pays to receive your call.

    (2) Assuming you are calling from a UK landline, you just need to dial the access number followed by his number. As Ypaymore said, it is not recommended to call any non-geographic number (such as 0844) from a mobile so would suggest, if you are calling from a UK mobile, to use a different top-up style service. We, along with several other providers, offer this service. You simply top-up then make your call via a regular UK number which will be included in your free minutes or charged at standard national rate.

    Regards,

    DialAbroad

I have been getting great bang out of this crowed. They late you make cheap call from your mobile phone. International Calls of course! But the thing is you have to have an 02 mobile phone. But if you can get over that its cool. Sim cards are cheap after all. They are called Call15 and you can find them at Call15.com

Your post is rather wasted, as that is an Irish provider for use with Irish SIM cards.

The thread is about MSE's comparison of cheap calls providers for UK users - because it is a UK-based forum

Whilst there will be a few but perhaps not a large number of Irish mobile users reading here, they'd obviously get much more appropriate results from consulting Irish comparison sites

Have been in USA, called there by partner from here in UK, using international money saving number – 08442009090, Discount Dial, 0.5p a min.
I wonder, anybody know - how come I got to be charged £1.66 for 46 mins, another 1 min call charged at £0.13 ; I know I’m dodgy on maths, but even I know those prices are not 0.5p a min!
In fact - looking at the call charges on the invoice, all the calls, 8 of them, have been charged in excess of 0.5p a min?
any chance of/ does anyone know - where could I, might I, find redress?
NB - I am with Virgin...do they hype up the call cost?

    Yes, yes, yes!

Virgin is the country's most expensive voice telephony provider and charges excessively for calling such numbers. IIRC, they charge 3p/minute for the 0844 range of numbers for which BT (and some other providers) charge ½p/minute. That's six times as much!

With their outragious 10p (or is it 11p now?) connection charge, that would account (pardon the pun) for what you've been charged.

It might be better for you to sign up online for a 18185 account and use their 08081703703 freephone access number to make future calls to the USA for 1p/minute.
Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.
