When does the 5p connection charge kick in? After you dial the freephone number? After you get a ringing/engaged tone? After the other party or their machine answer?

After the other party answers i believe. But their doesnt appear to be a way of checking your balance with this product.

  • Hi z1000000,

1899's prices are now listed on the CallChecker. There was an issue yesterday due to a site change they made.

Please note that DiscountDial were recently added too.

    Many thanks,

  • Hi., sorry if this is an obvious question but i am new to using the 0844 etc numbers form the likes of abroadtel, 1899 etc. I currently call pakistan using vectone1628 and pay 9p per min and am billed per minute. I have noticed some providers offer rates as low as 5 p per min using 0844 access numbers. Do you also have to pay anything extra for calling these numbers to BT (i.e. a local call charge?) or is the total amount paid 5p per min. I like using vectone as they have a 0207 access number aswell as a 0800 freephone number. i do not have a landline at home and so can use the 0207 number from my free mins on my mobile. I know the '3' network charges fro calls to 0845 numbers ang guess they'l aslo charge for 0844 numbers too? I am considering getting a basic BT line without extras such as BT together. Would i pay anything extra to call the 0844 access numbers other than the stated rate (i.e 5p/min)?
  • From a landline calls to 0844 dial through access numbers 2p to 5p are charged at your landline suppliers EG:BT,s quoted rate. You start paying as soon as you connect to the recorded annoucement. If you dont get through a minimum call charge applies(approx 5P) Their is no extra charge to be paid to the 0844 number supplier.EG Bestminutes.

https://www.1899.com also offer 020 and 0808 access numbers for mobile users.

  • Thanks for the help. Unfortunately 1899 dont offer pakistan as one of their destinations.
I have an 02 contract mobile with free off peak mins. I remember reading a post from Pricefighter that you can call 0844 numbers for free on 02 contract mobiles. Is this still true and has anyone tried it recently?

  • Hi, new to this.
After previously using the phone cards to ring mobiles in Singapore & Australia (Top Banana, etc) & subsequently finding the person I'd rung had been charged. I want to try some of the recommended providers, but am cautious. would like to know if I, or the person I'm ringing is likely to pay a premium for ringing a mobile.
    Thanks

In the Uk no, they would not pay to recive an incoming call. But in some countries, some networks do charge to recieve incoming calls. This has nothing to do with the UK provider of the service, and is out of their control.

tell your friend in Australia and Singapore to change their tariff. For example in Australia there are some tariff where he can receive unlimited amount of incoming calls during offpeak or even all day, but maybe the offpeak one will be the best option. You than call during his offpeak and he won't have to pay.
