It does indeed say 1p per minute!
And that is what I was charged for a call to Spain when I used the 0808 number from a BT line today (+3p connection).Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.0 -

The cost of calls to India appear to have gone up recently these carriers are now using 0871 access numbers, instead of 0844.
The two cheapest carriers from a landline using 0871 6p a minute no,s appear to be https://www.cheapestcalls.co.uk 0871 754 17 17 and https://www.telesavers.co.uk 0871 754 23 23.
The cheapest supplier of calls to 0871 from a landline are Bt.So if you have CPS dont forget to use your BT 1280 overide no.
Mobile users beware calls to 0871 are not included in any networks inclusive minutes as far as i am aware, and can be expensive.
https://www.call1899.co.uk still do calls to India at 7p a min plus connection charge from a landline, and if you dialling from a mobile you can still use there 0207 access number out of your inclusive minutes(but of course you will be paying 7p a min for the second leg of the call).PF.0 -
It looks to me as though someone isn't pulling their weight lately, with regards to updating the callchecker.
I found Kenya mobile to be 13p/min instead of 15p/min as shown by the call checker (my post is on the previous page). I've sent PM's also, and it's been over two weeks but still nothing has changed.
I'm sorry, I know this a free/voulantary service n'all, and overall the site is great - but what use is the call checker if it is not kept up to date?0 -
The CallChecker automatically gets the rates from the various sites (it's not a human thing) and the last problem# of this sort occurred (with some call costs to the USA not being displayed at all) was as a result of the site(s) in question somehow changing what the called USA so the auto-interrogation didn't work.
Of course, the following advice is also given on the CallCheker:Always double check prices on providers own websites (listed below)
There is no link between any of these providers and MoneySavingExpert.com, therefore MoneySavingExpert.com cannot be held liable for any inaccuracies. It's recommended you double check the price on their own websites before calling. We aim to add more providers to this comparison soon.
# I found out at that time that errors on the MSE CallChecker should be notified by e-mail to callchecker@moneysavingexpert.comTime has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. bennyong wrote:Well, I just found out about this site while doing a search.
This is great for those who calls China, Hong Kong, Singapore & Taiwan frequently.
It only costs 1p/min during weekends. The number to use is 0870 005 0188.
The service is provided by https://www.Tele88.co.uk. Is it possible to list this service on the call checker thingy on this website???
Well.
I hope this helps...

Welcome Benny.
Its only cheap to phone the 0870 number at weekends.
If you visit https://www.telediscount.co.uk you will see that you can ring from a Uk Landline, landlines in the 4 countries you mentioned on 0844 861 8585 at 1p a minute at all times 24/7 365. (Min call charge of 5p a min applies). You can also ring there mobiles at this rate from a Uk landline apart from Taiwan which costs 5p a min on a different 0844 number.
If you are on O2 Contract calls to 0844 are included in there inclusive minutes. If you are on O2 PAYG it only costs you 10p a minute to ring 0844 evenings, and just 2p a minute at weekends.Beware at peak rate its 30p a min i believe.
I hope you find this useful.PF.0 -
Just got our phone bill to find that our aupair has been having a field day on the phone to everyone she knows in Romania.
We are currently with Onetel (CPS). If we wanted to use one of the cheaper options like abroadtel (4p/min to Romania,) do we just phone the no. they give first or does that only apply if you are not on CPS and just on regular BT0 -

I can't see Abroadtel's 4p/min 08443990004 number on OneTel's price list so it may be that they bar access to 08443 numbers.
To be on the safe side, I'd make those Romania calls by hopping back onto BT - dial 1280-08443990004 and then, after the prompt, dial the full international number.
My goodness, are you going to notice the difference from OneTel's (StandardUKTalk) prices to Romania - a minimum of 42p/min (although you could get that down to 21p/minute if you additionally subscribe to their InternationalCaller package for £1/month).
Their - possessive pronoun (owned by them e.g. "They locked their car").
They're - colloquial/abbreviated version of 'They are'
There - noun (location other than here e.g. "You can buy groceries there") OR adverb (in or at that place e.g. "They have lived there for years") OR adverb (to or towards that place e.g. "Go there at noon") OR adverb (in that matter e.g. " I agree with you there").0 -
or u can get her a contract o2 or t-mobile phone and get her to use free minutes to cal 07744974333 and call romania for nothing0
