I have a Haier HWC1460TVEMEU. We bought this august last year. I also get the UNB code every few washes and have to do a seperate spin. The seal around the door has also now ripped. I have searched the internet for a spare part but cant find one. Anyone got any ideas?
Im really fed up with this machine, but because we bought it over a year ago am I now stuck with it or is there any way that I could get a refund/ replacement from comet? Im sure martin has drilled into my brain somewhere that things have to be fit for purpose and last a reasonable length of time?
Any help appreciated, thanks.0 -
This is a warning about a poor product, Comet are selling Haier washing machines and they are on offer at £189.99 - I bought one and after a week it packed up, Comet did send a repairman who told me that it was the third machine he had been to that day. I got my money back from Comet but I was told by the warehouseman that they are getting a lot of Haier machines back. So please be careful when buying this brand, they are a chinese make trying to get a foot hold into our market place. I can't criticise Comet there service has been good although the initial salesman told me that Haier were American.0

I could not find any parts for this machine, I usually use internet sites for spare parts as the extended warranties are a big ripoff they usually can't fix them any way. It was a haier HW-C1460TVEMEU so after it virtually ignored the non smoking ban, we brought a zanussi washing machine ordered it saturday 6th December come this morning from comet must admit they are very competitive. The driver said this was a common fault stated that the motors were too small. I was going to let this matter pass but not now.0

I found this..
http://whatconsumer.co.uk/how-long-should-it-last/Having said this, items which should last several years can still break down after this six month period. If the retailer or manufacturer’s warranty has run out, the shop is often quick to say there is nothing they can do before attempting to sell you an extended warranty. This is misleading. If you buy something which should last 7 years but breaks down after a year and a day, you can still claim it was of poor quality in reference to the durability aspect. In this respect it will help to know how long items such as washing machines or printers should last. You can get this information relevant trade association
I cant find anywhere how long a washing machine is meant to last. I did find a trade association - http://www.whitegoodstradeassociation.org/ but no info on there0 -
There is a thread on same site with the answer from a trade association:Life expectancy – Electronic equipment
13.1
The economic life expectancy of any product is difficult to determine, as price is not always an accurate guide to durability.
13.2
Most products can be expected to last a reasonable period of time but considerations such as price, quality, usage and the environment in which the product is used must be taken into account.
13.3
While the list below is not a comprehensive one it gives a general indication of life expectancy for a range of product types.
Small appliances
Irons, Kettles, Hair Dryers etc. 2 - 5 years
Medium Size Appliances
Cleaners, direct acting space heaters,
refrigerators and freezers, spin and
tumble dryers, Microwave Ovens 3 - 8 years
Larger Appliances
Electric Cookers, 8 - 10 years
Dishwashers, washing machines, 4 – 8 years
Low priced portable CTVs 3 - 5 years
Higher priced non-portable CTVs 5 - 8 years
Low priced VCRs and DVDs 2 - 5 years
Higher priced VCRs and DVDs 5 - 8 years
Low priced Hi-Fi Systems 2 - 5 years
Higher priced Hi-Fi systems 5 - 8 years
Note.
Life expectancy is the length of time a product would reasonably be expected to be able to be economically repaired where the spare parts are available. Some cosmetic parts may not be available for the same period of time as functional parts.
It does not imply that goods should last for a given period of time without going wrong or that the repairer should not make a reasonable charge for a repair.0 -
I would only buy quality makes as I think its a false economy buying these cheap makes. One thing I wouldn't do though is touch the likes of Comet or Currys with a barge pole. Try a local retailer, I saved nearly £100 on my Bosch dishwasher from Comet prices and the service was excellent.0

I went to buy a washing machine from Comet in August and explained I couldn't afford a lot because I had just moved house and hadn't expected the previous one to go. Anyway I was looking at the Haier because it was the cheapest they did. The salesman said quietly to me (as if he shouldn't have been saying it) that they had more of those back than any other item they sold.
The best machine I have ever had was an Electra. Can't get them now though because they were Powerhouse own make and they have gone under. I was recommended to have Zanussi when the one before last (Hoover) broke but that barely lasted 2 years.
The machine I have now (Hotpoint) seems ok but I think I may start a Miele fund!
I've now had 4 machines (in 12 years) and my mum has had, I think, 5 in over 35 years. I think three of those have been in the last 10 years. Says it all really.0 -

Hi
A repair guy came round to mine today to fix my old Hotpoint (so old it says "made in GB" on the front!). Bearings had worn and carbon brushes needed replacing but he recommended I have it fixed as it is one of their best; cost me £98 to get all the repairs done, he was recommended on a website I found on here which I will quote when I find it.
Just thought I'd mention that chatting to him he mention Haier and said don't buy one, they are cheap rubbish, and you can't get the parts when it goes wrong. Just thought I'd add this advice to all the other posts. He said Hotpoint are now made by Indesit and are no good either any more. Basically he said don't spend under £300 for a washing machine; you are more likely to end up wasting money. Recommends Bosch, Miele, the more expensive ones as the parts are decent. I tend to agree, and as long as my machine is ok - am just trying it since the repairs so fingers crossed, I even think considering repairs on decent machines can be a better option, especially as there is so much cheap rubbish out there..0
