  • What a load of .......

Our washing machine broke down and we were in need of a new one asap. My hubby offered to pick one up but whilst he was looking at the haier i made sure he knew i did not want that one because it looked like a heap of .....

He only came back with that exact one! this was on 10 sept 08 it is now 13 nov 08 and i still hate the bloomin thing.

Two days after it was bought it blew up (burning rubber smell, smoke everywhere, flash of electricity in the drum, two round bits of rubber fall out the back and jumped out of its space in the kitchen) - only to be told by a comet engineer there was nothing wrong with it and that it was only the rubber seals from the anti movement bolts at the back which we had obv took out on opening the packaging.

For a few weeks now it has been pouring bubbles and water out of the dispensor drawer (doesn't matter what amount of powder you use or if you use liquitabs). I just thought i was using too much powder or that the liquitabs were a lot stronger up until i read this post.

Had the same engineer out a few days ago cos the machine isn't washing clothes properly and is absolutely stinking when opened, only to be told it's my water pressure. I don't live in a tower block !!!!!!. I'm an upstair tenant in a four in a block house, there's only the ground and first floor. Apparently with some water pressure they cannot rectify it - BULL. (ok maybe if you are in the high flats i can see the point).

I also have the same problem with the machine spinning/draining/rinsing - can't quite put my finger on which, since the clothes are always full of bubbles and ringing wet when the cycle has finished. Also noticed yesterday the UNB fault.

I could really punch my other half for buying the damn thing. I asked him to take it straight back and kept nagging him but has he given in? has he hell.

It's the first item i've let him buy for the kitchen and it will be the last. He obv thinks he is right about this machine and that it's gods gift when it's more like the opposite!

Fizzing isn't a strong enough word for how i feel.

Watchdog sounds like a brilliant Idea! :T both for comet and haier!

Oh dear, another unfortunate story. I guess your hubby is in the dog house!
Maybe let him experience the machine. Surely the explosion should of been enough!
I would not go near one and I'd have to have at least a 40ft barge pole.
You do all know this is where Haier is from:!

If it was the water pressure it would be an issue for the buildings' owner. High rises/tall builds are fitted with pumps to assist the water delivery to the upper levels (OH works in building design), so that's absolute poppyc0ck.
I recommend my trusty Indesit. Our family have been using Indesits since I was a wee one, and even when they break down (our family are a good size, each household does about three loads a day) the customer service is great. Mine was repaired within three days after a fault whilst it was under warranty, no trouble since.
@ theadam: you clearly like your Miele, but there's no need to repeat it ad nauseum.

Well, I just want to say thank you. Yet again this site has saved me money. I have just been trawling the net for a new washing machine and the Haier brand caught my eye at Argos. Thankfully I thought to check out a few reviews before comitting myself and I'm so pleased I did. Thank you to every one that has posted a review on this brand, it really does pay to spread the word - whether good or bad!

My post is somewhat redundant, but I am yet again grateful to all who posted on this Thread.
It looks as though I too need a new washing machine urgently, on minimal budget(a.k.a. nil funds for same)and had been looking on ebay.......
Spelling and grammar for a certain machine matches what seems to be consensus opinion for Haier.

  • I have had a haier washing machine for 13 weeks which i bought from comet, and i have an engineer coming out today for the second time for the same problem and another problem that has occured since but they will not replace the machine or give me a refund untill it becomes unrepairable. I have been on to trading standards but it turns out there is not a limit to the number of times they can repair it or try to as the case may be. The only advice I have been given is to send a written complaint by recorded deliery which is going to cost me money and I have already spent a fortune on phone calls of my mobile.

Has anyone got any other they can give that is more likely to help me?
  • Well, I'm never usually a lucky person when it comes to these things. We've had a haier for over year now with no problems and we've lugged it to a new house in that time.

I will be watching it suspiciously from now on though!

Although occasionally it does say 'error' A switching off and on usually rectifies that though
  • My washing machine also blew up a few weeks back and the cost to repair was £150 so figured it was time for a new one - I looked at the Haier at Comet online, but luckily for me they were out of stock so I went for an Indesit - I have always had Indesit in the past and so far so good........

Welcome to Martin's terrific site kh and sorry to read of your problems
Go onto the 'Say no to 0870' section(type it into the search bar in the top r/h cnr)to find other, less costly or free numbers.
Otherwise, I'd speak strongly as you have here about the cost to you of constant 'phoning re: further faults and insist they make a goodwill gesture and ring you back immediately, as soon as they know it's you.
    Good luck and Welcome.

  • I have a Haier washing machine and have had the same fault as mentioned here: unbalanced load error.

In defence of Comet, they arranged for an engineer to visit my house to look at the machine. He explained that a batch of the machines were provided with Euro circuit boards instead of UK circuit boards. The additional 20v feeds back through circuit board as an error and causes the fault.

When he opened my machine up, the board was of European specification and within 10 minutes he had replaced it. The machine now functions properly.

Whilst I will not argue that the machine is cheap, Comet have fixed the fault at a time to suit me and have been polite and courteous at all times. What more could I have expected?

I think that sometimes we expect solid gold when all we are prepared to pay for is plating... If you want Miele, then buy Miele. Otherwise, accept that occasionally some things do go wrong.
