Yes you are, if the bloody thing (sorry, being from Yorkshire, I cant help it)isnt fit for purpose you should demand to get your money back and depending on your budget stretch to something much more reliable. If need be, go somewhere else from Comet. Probably happening sometime soon, knowing that machine. ;)
I would suggest John Lewis, I've read very good reviews of their customer service, unlike Currys and Comet that refuse the customer as soon as they have bought something, all they want to do is sell sell sell, without giving a damn to the customer. In one of the previous post the salesman told them Haier was american. What?! Thats either mis-trained or lying and both of them are wrong.

Problem is - i got the machine through a charity, the family fund, who provide essentials for families with severely disabled children.

You can apply for something, once a year, and this year we were awarded a washing machine. But, they give you a Comet payment card, up to a set amount, and you have to buy the machine along with a 5 year extended warrenty. The Haier was one of the few (maybe 3) we could afford without having to add any extra cash to it.

So, if it goes again, i'll try and pay some extra and get something better. But we have no choice but to go to Comet.

A few years ago we got a tumble drier - under the same terms from Comet. The first one lasted a day, the second two weeks, and I was appauled at Comets after care service. At one point leaving us for 4 weeks with no dryer, (while they were trying to repair the second one) over the christmas period, with a child who needs his bedding changing every day!!

So i'm pretty stuck with Comet - Bummer!!!

I'm very sorry to hear that. Have you contacted the Trading Standards? It sounds as if you deserve a better machine. If you can pay towards a better machine but really cant stretch to Miele, then Bosch. But that Haier wont last long at all.

I can't remember where I read it, but the European brands have around 4% failure rate, Haier has over 80%. That is medicre build quality, and even makes a Hotpoint look desirable!

    Thanks for reply.

I've not contacted trading standards - i'll see how long tomorrows new motor lasts, then will insist on changing it if (or when) it breaks again!!

I'd love to be able to afford a Miele, i know it makes sense to spend in the long run, as i've only ever heard good things about them.

I'd not heard of the Haier when I bought it, and i believed the Comet Salesman when he said they were new and he'd had not problems with the ones he'd sold up to now - silly me for believing him!!!

Maybe i'll start a Miele fund to pay the extra when the Haier next breaks - but I really don't think it will last long enough to save a tenner!!!

Would have to disagree on the Zanussi - mine had its' 26th birthday this April, and was repaired for the first time EVER in all of those 26 years in June. My engineer said to hang on to it - cos NONE of what is on the market now is going to last that long!

I agree I`ve had a Zanussi for about 5 years now its great !! It was a hand me down from my great aunt who passed away, and she`d had it bout 15 years:D

    Thats funny! Hehehe
You probably wont need to save much, take a look at Comet's clearance auction.
Just like this nice one thats going for £375, when its probably about ermmm £900 ish.
But yes you are true, good things come to those who own a Miele, I too have heard nothing but good comments about them.
That salesman was lying, glad I didn't get a job there afterall, I could never lie about something like that, just to make a sale.
I'm guessing you get the new motor installed today, do keep us posted won't you, I'd like to hear the outcome

I have a Comet engineer out tomorrow now to look at ours. We had the common 'not spinning' issue but put it down at first to us doing something wrong (not sure how mind you ;)) but I made the mistake of reporting it to Comet about 30 days after delivery so have had to settle for an engineer rather then an outright refund .

Oh well, tonight (so 40 days after purchase) it decided that the UNB error is the way forward :D. I am now pondering options to spectacularly destroy the Haier whilst I save up for something a little more 'European'. I have a feeling that Comet's support is a highway to nowhere.

The worst thing was it was not bought as it was the cheapest, it was bought on the basis of getting it very quickly as our old machine packed up. The 'decent' brands all seemed to have massive lead times from the shops we tried (I wonder why).

  • didnt any of you notice the 'rubbishness of it all. those tacky over plasticy buttons and nasty ergonomics etc...

    WHY DID YOU DO IT?

Surely your better off with a second hand Bosch than a hairmachine?
