  • I bought one of those about 4 weeks ago £189 seemed cheap for a 1400 spin now i know why one was and it broke :( i foned comet and did a reset on the machine no joy. The repair man came out and said with a machine like this you have to fill it as full as you can - Hmmmmmm he condemed the machine and i went back to comet and got a better machine at a higher price.
Never again would i buy a haier.
  • I bought one of these..... what a waste of money!!! I'm on my second washer as the first was replaced, and it doesnt work either. Wont spin, says unb all the time. Paid £162 inc delivery. If something seems too good to be true, then I guess it prob is! :-(

Hello everyone. As much as i believe in saving money, i also believe the old adages of 'you get what you pay for' and 'buy cheap buy twice'. You cant buy a highly mechanical device such as a washing machine for £159, just like Argos's HEC and Haier offerings, thats common sense really. I'm also dubious about Beko offerings and even brands such as Hotpoint, Servis, Indesit and Zanussi are seriously unreliable. My aunts new Zanussi, flooded the utility just after it was installed, needless to say it was replaced by Currys pretty sharpish.
The only brand i've found which you can really rely on is definitely a Miele. Expensive yes, but unlike the Haier tat, they're quality German engineered and won't break down within a week.

I am currently looking at washing machines and noticed that the John Lewis website offers 5 year guarantees on Siemens and 10 year guarantees on Miele! It must be good.

Why wasn't this thread here when I bought mine in April???

I got it from Comet, and asked the salesman about the make as i'd not heard of it. He told me they're quite new, but he's had no comeback on the ones he's sold up to now. (maybe he hadn't sold any!!).

I bought it, and also luckily got the 5 years warrently - lucky, i think i'm going to need it.

I was getting UNB (unbalanced messages), and it was only spinning when it felt like. Approx. 50% of the time, the washing came out dripping and had to be put back in for a seperate spin - which worked.

Engineer came out two weeks ago, and said the UNB was a common fault, and my machine was balanced fine. Also, the not spinning was probably that it was over/under loaded!?! !!!!!!?

Anyway, he came back later that week with a new electronic panel, (the bit on the front with the buttons/display on), as they'd been found to be faulty.

He went, i did washing, again had to do the seperate spin - so phoned Comet again - they booked to come Tuesday.

Put washing on Monday night, as it got to the end of the cycle, it went nuts!! Soapy bubbles came out of the powder drawer (i'd used liqui-tabs in the drum), it moved itself about half a metre out of its space, then started to smell of burning rubber before blowing the electric!!

Engineer came Tuesday morning (armed with another replacement electronic panel!), and said he'd have to order a new motor, which would take a week. Apparently they'll be back next Thursday to fix it.

So i've got no washing machine, two kids and lots of washing

Is it acceptable to replace the motor on a 3-4 month old machine or should they be replacing it? (the machine)

After reading this thread i'd pay extra for something more reliable.

You should ask for a refund, and get Comet to give it to you pretty sharpish! No washing machine should break down in 3 months and a motor needing replacement, that is extremely poor build quality.

After all, HAIER are from China, so what do you expect? :rotfl:
Makes me laugh, as Argos are now stocking them, and on one of the pages it says something to this degree:
'All Haier appliances are built to the highest quality standards'

:rotfl: What a load of bull that is!
  • Comet are awful! they "can't afford good will". But if you involve trading standards they will refund you when pushed. I am getting a proper branded washer now. I will never buy Haier again! And after my expriences with comet, I wont be dealing with them again either! I do think though, that we all should spread this around the internet, as other poor people are going through all of this because comet refuse to accept that there is any issue. The delivery men know there is an issue, the call centre knows there is an issue, the customers know there is an issue, but comet refuse to believe there is an issue. Even headoffice! They are even selling Haier machines on the comet clearance web site! Lets try and spread the word and save other people all the trouble!

Would have to disagree on the Zanussi - mine had its' 26th birthday this April, and was repaired for the first time EVER in all of those 26 years in June. My engineer said to hang on to it - cos NONE of what is on the market now is going to last that long!

hiwe bought one last week, same fault - no spin. rang comet, it is an inherent fault with these washing machines, they are aware of it so why do they carry on selling them,? we then bough a candy after a refund which was also faulty, as the water poured in it poured out through a hole in the bottom - just how unlucky can you get? we are now the proud posessers of a hoover which seems to be running smoothly!

Thats ok, but thats a golden oldie. This one was a brand new one, and the newer ones arent that hot in my opinion.

So if Haier are trying to get a foothold in the UK, I dont think they'll get too far to be honest.. :D
And actually, if anyones watching the Olympics, you'll see the Haier brand all over the place, apparently they're sponsoring the Chinese team. Obviously more money than sense :rotfl:
Well done Great Britain anyhow! :j Now 3rd overall!!
Susan, you do realise that that new Hoover is actually a Candy in disguise?
For anyone looking for a decent machine, after reading all the Haier nightmares this looks good value:
