I'd like to nominate a small, international charity. I know that this is a long way down the list of nominations but please consider pressing the thanks button!

    a. Re~Cycle,UK Charity Number: 1063570
    b. http://www.re-cycle.org/
    c. Changing lives by sending recycled bicycles to Africa
    d. Recycle was a MSE charity this year, and made very good use of the money. A small, international charity that takes second hand bikes (e.g. ex-royal mail) and ships them to African partners where they are used by outreach workers, to empower women, by small start up businesses and more! They really fit in with the ethos of MSE - you can make big changes through small actions and helping people to help themselves. My only personal connection with them is that we are doing a sponsored bike ride from Lands End to John O Groats for them as we feel strongly that they deserve support (see my signature). They aren't a big well known charity but they are directly changing people's lives, reducing waste and promoting sustainable development. And all on a very small budget! Please press “Thanks”– there aren't many small charities nominated and it's a great cause!

    INSERT FROM MARTIN:

NO NEED TO NOMINATE RECYCLE - IT IS AN AUTOMATIC PICK - SEE FIRST POST :)

edit: Apologies! Sorry for clogging up the site - should read things more carefully/properly. Thank you for pointing it out! I've left my post in to back up why Martin has picked it, plus the link in Martin's post seems to be broken

I would like to nominate the ME Association.
    www.meassociation.org.uk
Information, advice and support for ME sufferers.

An estimated 240,000 people in the UK suffer from ME. About 25,000 have the most severe form of the illness; they are bedbound, intolerant of light and sound, cannot sit upright, wash or dress themselves, and many cannot swallow so nourishment is provided via a drip. There is no treatment and no cure, and two research projects which are currently trying to find a diagnostic test almost failed because of lack of funding. Despite being classified by the World Health Organistaion as a neurological disorder, like Parkinson's Disease and Multiple Slerosis , people in the UK, if they are offered any help at all, are offered only Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (counselling) and Graded Exercise Therapy, despite evidence that, not only do neither therapies work, but that GET can be harmful and can even cause death. Some ME sufferers have been sectioned under the Mental Health Act. Please help forgotten victims of ME.

    • A humanitarian aid organisation providing medical assistance nationally and internationally.
    • Medecins du Monde provides healthcare for vulnerable populations around the world.
In addition to medical care, our volunteers “bear witness” to any obstacles to health care or human rights abuses that they see. This gives a voice to vulnerable people whose stories may not otherwise be heard.
Our projects take place in both developed, as well as developing, countries.
Our long-term objective is to make health a human right.
Medecins du Monde UK is a non-governmental organisation, apolitical and non-denominational. Financial independence is the key to the political independence of our organisation.
We rely on valuable donations and legacies from people like you.

  • a. Friends of PICU
    b. http://www.friendsofpicu.org.uk
    c. Supporting critically ill children across the southern counties
    d. Friends of PICU is a registered children’s charity that supports the patients and families of the Paediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) at Southampton General Hospital. Its aim is to raise funds to provide vital equipment & services directly to the unit, who retrieve and look after 700+ critically ill children per year from throughout the southern counties region. The charity is currently raising funds to renovate the six family rooms associated with the unit. These rooms provide free accommodation for the families of critically ill children who may have travelled many miles to receive extended intensive care.

    Hi,
I would like to nominate the following charity:

    a) The Samson Centre Project
    b) www.samsoncentre.org.uk
    c) providing practical & emotional support for MS sufferers
    d) The Samson Centre is an independent charity providing practical and emotional support for people affected by multiple sclerosis. Its aim is to significantly improve the quality of life for people with this devastating condition, by providing physiotherapy, natural therapies, emotional support and information for sufferers and their families. The charity has achieved an enormous amount already, thanks to the hard work of its supporters, many of whom have MS themselves. But there is a constant need for more funding to maintain and improve the facilities, and even more importantly, to make it available to more people.
In the words of consultant neurologist Dr Michael Gross, "Initiatives like the Samson Centre should allow more people to optimise their performance, increase the quality of life, experience for longer the activities of able-bodied people and hopefully lead to less functional handicap".
  • I would like to nominate Deafblind UK please! :j

    www.deafblind.org.uk

Deafblind UK is a national charity offering specialist services and human support to deafblind people and those who have progressive sight and hearing loss acquired throughout their lives. Our aim is to enable people living with this unique disability to maintain their independence, quality of life, and reduce the isolation that Deafblindness creates.

    Thank you! :T

  • a.) Finchale Training College
    b.) www.finchalecollege.co.uk
c.) Vocational training enabling disabled adults to gain employment
    d.)
Finchale Training College was established in 1943 as a rehabilitation centre for ex-service personnel returning from the war. Over the years the College has changed markedly but their aim has remained constant - to provide vocational rehabilitation and training to unemployed disabled adults to enable them to gain and retain employment.
Finchale is based in Durham but trainees arrive from across the UK with a wide variety of disabilities. The College is extremely successful and helps lots of adults, many who have been unemployed for a long time, begin successful careers in whatever field they choose.
Despite Finchale Training College's success they are not widely known across the country. As with all charities they rely heavily on donations and they would really benfit from a donation from this website, particularly in their 65th year of operation.
Ultimately the College seeks to develop trainees' potential by focusing on their abilities not disabilities.

Part of the Furniture Combo Breaker
    a) The Woodland Trust

    b) http://www.woodland-trust.org.uk/

    c) UK's Largest Woodland Planting and Conservation Charity

    d) We are all using our computers regularly to access this fantastic Money Saving Site which, in power consumption terms, has burned many tonnes of carbon. Add that to the thousands of reams of paper we've used for the complaint letters we have written to banks and finance companies, and we should seriously consider giving something back to the Earth and securing our planet for our children and grandchildren. This charity plants new native woodlands across the UK for us all to enjoy and benefit from. Lets create our own MSE Woodlands!
  • I'd like to nominate Cancer Active - its is a totally independant charity that has an amazing website offering advice and information on cancer. The founder has put thousands of pounds of his own money into it and never taken a penny out. It is the only site that is totally impartial and realistic, with researched info on all types of treatment - conventional and alternative. I would urge anyone who is touched by cancer to visit this site. It is also worth checking out if you aren't. It forwards research on all sorts of things from mobile phone radiation, to faith healing.
This money would enable the Charity to grow and spread its much needed help even further.
    Thanks for reading this.
