I would like to nominate Waltham Forest Dyslexia Association
http://wfda.org.uk
Essential literacy teaching support for struggling children.
We offer literacy teaching from dyslexia qualified tutors in small groups for children who are struggling at school with reading and writing difficulties. This support is not available in school and makes a huge difference to children to would otherwise fail to cope. Private tuition can cost around £40 per hour which is not affordable for most families in our area. Our small group tuition costs £8 per hour and we also offer further subsidies for low income families. We need funding to allow us to continue to offer this support.0 -
The Boys' Brigade - Nottingham Battalion
www.boys-brigade.org.uk (National web site)
Christian-based charity for young people aged 6-18 yrs
The Boys' Brigade has been in Nottingham for 120 years delivering quality youth work for the young people of Nottingham. There are currently 23 groups in and around Nottingham.
We offer a wide range of activities - all sorts of sports, Duke Of Edinburgh Award, christian education, camping and have a progressive award system where members obtain badges and certificates. The emphasis is always on fun and enjoyment and membership is open to all.
All our leaders and helpers are unpaid volunteers - tirelessly providing their time and energy often at the expense of family and work commitments.
The need for the BB (as its warmly known) in Nottingham is as great now as it was back in 1888 and we're keen to appoint a development worker to help recruit more leaders, members and help create more new groups.
Nottingham has some areas where the BB is not present and we feel that we can - and need to - take our work in to these areas to really make a difference to the lives of many more young people.0 -
